Somebody on the prospects board posted this, THN draft preview can be had for free at thehockeynews.com/free

THN may not be the best at this point but at least it's something.

Do these Lottery odds look correct for us if they go with the current draft proposal?

1st - 10.7%
4th - 58.0%
5th - 31.3%

We'd go from a 31.6% chance of picking top-4 to 68.7% and have an extra 1.2% chance at #1. We do lose any chance at 2 or 3, but also eliminate 6th and 7th as possibilities.

Seems like it benefits us more than it hurts.

EDIT: ...and of course, someone posted the table of odds in another thread while I was typing this. Thanks Kovacro!

I take these odds with the higher chance of picking 1st and a guarantee of a top 5 pick. At the very least we walk away with Raymond or Rossi.

Pierre LeBrun on a radio spot, seems the lottery format is a point of contention, not because a bunch of teams don't get a kick at the can, but because Detroit is guaranteed a top 2 pick and Ottawa 2 top 4 picks.

The Ottawa issue is a non-factor. Ottawa should not be punished just because the Sharks made a bad trade.

I never liked the lottery system to begin with and this is a blessing for the bad teams. It’s not fair that a team at the playoff bubble gets to jump many spots and get a top three pick like we saw happen so often. The purpose of the lottery should be to give the really bad teams a chance to rebound.

I have no problem with Detroit’s odds. They really need help.

Yep, the complaining is ridiculous if those are the points of contention. How often is Detroit in this position? It's not like they're pulling an Edmonton or a Pittsburgh pre-Crosby and as good as the prospects are in this draft, there is nobody considered a McDavid or even Matthews level prospect at this point.

Oh, so NOW teams want to complain, because they don't get a shot at drafting 1st overall for blackholing and because they can't drop Detroit from #1 to #4?

I mean, I've said it before--this system would already have been in the trash if the 2015 Kings won the McDavid lottery. The current bitching is almost even more ridiculous than that.

I'm starting to get this vibe that we'll somehow draft Alexis Lafreniere and that he's destined for LA. His initials are AL, the first to letters of his name are AL and LA...the Luc Robitaille thing...he wears 11 like Kopitar (11 is LAK's magic number it seems, Kopi fell to us at 11, Vilardi fell to us at 11, our Cup run started in 2011; 11 is #1 twice, just like our two Cup wins, etc.).

All we need to do somehow is to make some sort of deal with Lumbus.

Lotteries are always going to be imperfect as it's impossible to gauge tanking, and losing games on purpose. "We wanted to give a lot of young guys a look, that's why they are getting games late in the year" and so on. If I had to choose though, I would take what they are proposing now over what we have.

Dancing Boy needs to buy himself an Alexis Lafreniere Kings jersey, just like he did in 2008 when he bought himself a Stamkos #91 Kings jersey.

granted he was entertaining when I was a kid, but his takes are almost universally trash. the Stamkos thing is hilariously on brand.

Those were the days. We ended up with the better player anyway. Stamkos for as good as he was/is as a goal-scorer, he never had the impact level of Doughty on actual wins and losses. That stretch between 2012 to 2014, Doughty played the most minutes of hockey than anyone on the friggin' planet. Think about that.

Anyway, Chris Sutter is more entertaining than DB was in his prime!

Another point about the draft. Because the draft lottery rules are being developed after the season is likely over, there is no concern about teams tanking to get the number 1 pick under the new COVID-19 lottery rule. Again, I see no reason why a team like Detroit, Ottawa, Kings or Ducks should not get the benefit of the new rules when none of these teams intentionally tanked during the season. Detroit was simply horrible, Ottawa worked it tail off each game and simply lacked talent, the Kings were actually on a roll at the end and played decent this year, and the Ducks I believe had eyes for the playoffs when the season started.

For all the people complaining about the current format, they can look at how things are in the old format.

I am in favor of jumping right into the playoffs. I have no desire to see the Kings play again this season.

I'm ordinarily with you. But not this time. I think the NHL needs to 1) finish this season, 2) figure out who's drafting where, and 3) hold a truncated playoffs that perhaps go as late as August...... best 3 of 5 series, but still 16 best teams qualify, 4) hold the draft, and THEN announce that the 20-21 season will be abridged (say, 50-60 games instead of 82). And then start that abbreviated season right after Thanksgiving (late November to mid-April).

But that's just me. LoL, I'm obsessed with drafting the BPA in the draft, and we still have an excellent chance of drafting 2nd overall ......IF......and only if we finish the season!!!

But but Doughty's not even in the top ten best Dman in the past Decade according to this guy. LMAO.
