I desperately hope LA does go with Stützle. Don’t get me wrong, he looks great, but Byfield has so much potential and is exactly what we need. He could be our 1C for years and be an elite talent in this league if he develops and reaches that potential. I really like his defensive upside too because of his size. I see Stützle panning out more as a winger in the NHL, or at least not the type of Center that Byfield would be and what I’d want ideally. I’m like 90/10 on wanting Byfield over Stützle so I’d honestly be pretty let down if we don’t get him, but it’s really out of our control.

As for #5, I really hope we don’t take Rossi. I find him a tad overrated at this point, especially by our fans since he played in the city. I’m hoping we take Raymond or Holtz. Either Swede would prove to be a great winger and solidify our top 6 of the future. Their games are different, but they both really impress me.

i listened to Scouching's live stream last night. not all of it maybe an hour.

some interesting questions and answers that i can think of...

someone asked him if he would trade 2nd overall for Eichel. he gave some roundabout answer saying yes and no. personnaly i would prettyeasily.

someone asked something along the lines of basically what should the Sens do. He said if last year was indicative of a trend then he thinks Lundell will be one of our picks...a bit older, two way, bigger body. Going byfield - rossi for pure firepower would not be a bad idea. but also taking drysdale with byfield would make sense.

I asked about Michael Benning. He said he doesnt see it and basically echoed what someone here answered to me sorry cant remember who

Asked him who he thinks can be the steal of the draft. in the comments people were saying Tristen Robbins (like him a lot) and Powell was another guy. He said Pashin. Hes been on the Pashin train for a long time. super undersized winger slated to go late in the draft or possibily undrafted. Super fast super skilled he compared his style to Gaaudreau.

Wings at 4 someone asked perfetti or raymond. he prefers raymond but could see the wings going for a guy with a little more center experience.

has Jarvis 15.

Sanderson towards the latter part of the top 10 .

i dont see where rossi is being overrated even on the All superior mckenzie list he is 7. in a 4-10 range where basically everyone says is interchangeable.. and honestly 7 is the latest i have seen him.

Not just Ottawa 67 fans overrating him. I guess when you lead the OHL in scoring and you win OHL MVP, and trail only the #1 consensus pick in the draft by .0109 pts/g some people are going to overrate you.

From LA's board (Thanks again)
Thought it would be useful, so I took all of Tim Stutzle's raw data from DEL's website. Took a couple hours but here is a google sheet. Will add some analysis onto it later. This doc has all of Stutzle's points, shots on goal, shifts, and ice time. I had to watch about 3 hours of Stutzle highlights to get everything. He is a great prospect no doubt. Also listed notes of both positives and negatives on many of his highlights that day.

Tim Stutzle Raw Data:
Google Sheet

Notably, 38% of Stutzle's points came on the power play, and 62% of Stutzle's total points were primary goals and assists. Comparatively, Byfield had 26% of his points come on the power play, and 83% of his points are primary points.

Tim Stutzle Zone Starts:
55%
of Stutzle's starts were in the offensive zone.
26% of his starts were in the neutral zone.
18.5% were in the defensive zone.

Also something not talked about: Stutzle had ZERO time on the penalty kill. I could not find a single shift with him out there.

Also, thanks to @SwedeChristoffer for sending me some links to advanced stats for European players. Will make a breakdown but it can give us a good comparison between Raymond and Stutzle.

Byfield led the OHL in Goals scored per 60, primary assists per 60, and primary points per 60 in the OHL. He is #1 in the CHL (OHL, WHL, or QMJHL) in primary assists scored per 60. He is 2nd in all of the CHL in Goals per 60 only behind Lafreniere. HE WAS #1 IN PRIMARY POINTS PER 60 AND THIS IS DESPITE BYFIELD BEING 8TH IN PP POINTS per 60!!!!! (Data from Drafting Hockey aka HockeyPC on Patreon).

The fact that Byfield is outpacing Lafreniere in some of these categories. Byfield is closer to #1 than #3 is to him. I stand behind it and the data.

Sorry bold and caps. Im excited because he was outproducing in some situations despite lower PP point projections.

You made it sound like the majority of lists you’ve seen have Stutzle or Rossi #3. I have seen maybe 1 lost have Rossi that high.

Bobs rankings are consensus best player rankings from nhl scouts. So yes it does give a good picture of how they’re viewed in the scouting world

Bob’s list is based on input from 10 NHL scouts. I wish he had inputs from 31 scouts, one from each team.

Stutzle can play C I have no doubts about that, considering hes played C his whole career until last season. Also if you watched him play C at the WJC he just covers so much ice it's crazy

The biggest advantage he has that nobody discusses as much is his ability to quarterback a power play - pretty rare asset imo and hes amazing at it.

I think he goes to LA, basically exactly what they need up front. And he ain't small, 6'1 about 200lbs at 18

My concern with Rossi is a few things, but I've said before hes the hardest guy to evaluate.

I think he was like 7 or 8 days away from being drafted last season? Hes very small, not a great skater, doesnt have an elite shot or stick handling. Has amazing vision and hockey sense..and again puts up 120 friggin points.

Most prospects you see the extremely evident raw skills - those are right in your face with Byfield and Stutzle, speed agility skill shot size..ect. Perfetti and Raymond have some of those elements as well.

Rossi has less apparent raw skills, but dominates in vision and IQ. That's what makes him a worse "prospect" imo, but doesn't mean he will be a worse player.

You try to put raw skills together into a player, that's why Byfield is so enticing because he has the best raw skills by far.

Rossi is put together already with what hes got, very interesting to see what he becomes at the NHL level

Byfield quarterbacks the powerplay from the point in Sudbury.

As an outsider, it appears there is a lot of smoke around Stutzle to LA and would make sense given they still have Kopitar and just drafted Turcotte.

Especially true if they feel Stutzle can potentially play both centre and wing.

Regardless, if Ottawa can come out with Byfield/Stutzle at #3 and then draft Raymond at #5, that would be a fantastic draft.

Given the rumours of Detroit being interested in Perfetti, it’s a real possibility.

For me, Drysdale and Sanderson are not BPA at #5 to warrant their selection there unless they trade down.

Otherwise, select a dman with the Isles 1st and Ottawa could have a very nice looking draft.

And Laf, Rossi and Perfetti help run the pp as well. Every top player is 1st PP unit, Stutzle is just on another level in quarterbacking the pp imo - I've never seen a prospect do what he does

I want Byfield because hes exactly what Ottawa needs, but these are some reasons why I believe LA will pick Stutzle over him.

Win win

Right now I'm hopeful to leave with Byfield + Raymond

I'd be happy with a lot of different combinations but that's my favourite scenario

i find post like these to be useless and probably biased. not a fan of evaluating using just numbers, seems like the context gets lost.
Well I mean they’re just numbers. It’s clear byfield had a great season. That’s the story. Fin.

I dislike every d man ranked around the isles pick. We can’t over think it. Just go forward forward forward

Hi I am the guy who posted those numbers. HFBoards does not show the quotes of a quote. In that post the top half was about raw data on Stutzle, the google sheet is hours of sitting on the computer and writing down Stutzle's production, highlights, and understanding his season.

The 2nd half was a response to Byfield's production. I won't hide it, I want LA to take Byfield with the number 2 pick. But I came to that conclusion after about 30 hours of homework on them. Film, stats, breakdowns, etc. That being said, Stutzle is not a bad pick at #2 or #3. Both our organizations are in a great spot to pick up top tier talent. (Especially since Ottawa has 2 picks in the top 5).

If y'all have any questions about some stats and data on these players, or what the perspective of LA fans is, let me know! Would love to share my opinions with you guys.

Cheers!

10 head scouts. Paints a good picture.

I am not certain that it is 10 “head” scouts. Do you have a source?

Ten is a small quantity of all pro scouts, so I have concerns about implying that it is a “consensus” of opinions of all teams or even a representative sampling of opinions.

It reads the same way comparing Strome and Zibanejad’s #’s in their draft years would, which really doesn’t do anything when comparing the two, and of course Stutzle isn’t playing SH minutes, it’s not being talked about because he was a 17 year old in a professional hockey league, why would he be playing SH minutes? If Byfield were in that league, his numbers would be lower in every category, and he’d have no SH minutes either, but he’d still have the same projections and potential even with the lower advanced numbers.

I’d rather Byfield as well, but those numbers don’t help me come to any kind of conclusion or comparison.
