Let's see, the Jets launched the Brady era and now the Tua era?
It was Mo Lewis, right? I don't know why it stands out so much but I remember it clear as day. Bledsoe scrambling, almost ducking out of bounds, then running worse than Testaverde until Mo flattened him on the sideline. And the rest is history. :shakehead

Would be extremely dumb of a player that's a surefire #1 OA to stay in school another season just to try and dodge a team. Doubly so when the Jets without Lawrence will probably be bad enough the following season to select #1 OA.

It's the lot of Top-5 picks. You're going to a bad team. Sacrificing a year off your NFL career and rolling the dice with tens of millions of dollars in guaranteed money is foolish, and rarely works out.

i agree yet you never know. Tua got injured and went #5 overall.

The thing about Lawrence which won’t ever change, his height and likely his arm. Peyton Manning did stay in school as did Herbert. You never know.

Lawrence isn't staying in school

Too much money to pass up and if he's anywhere close to as good as projected, he'll be a megastar in the biggest city in the US. No one his age is passing up the opportunity to be a multi millionaire in NYC

No one

It does seem unlikely. Tua lost about $6M in guaranteed money (#1 vs. #5, though no guarantee he was the #1). He was somewhat fortunate that Miami still had enough faith to take him. Had he slipped one more spot to where Herbert went, he would have lost basically $4M guaranteed. Just say hypothetically you suffer a catastrophic injury and go 15 instead of 1, that's basically a different of $15M guaranteed. It's an enormous financial risk.

If Lawrence, or anyone in his position, actually decided to do the Peyton Manning thing, I would advise them to sit out the year. Hire the best agent and the best guys you can find to train with, and just do that until the next draft. Have a couple showcases in the interim to let everyone know how you're progressing. Just don't actually go back to play. That would be crazy.

why did Peyton then?

why did Peyton then?
It happened once over 20 years ago when the situations aren't really alike at all, not exactly a good reference point.

I have no idea why Jet fans would even entertain the idea frankly, unless you just enjoy being miserable and thinking miserably

didn't rookies make way less money back then?

Anyway, even if he does, he's just gonna get drafted 1st overall by the Jets in 2022 lmao theres no escape.
First overall picks made way more back then because there was no rookie wage scale. Peyton Manning's first contract out of school was 6 years $46 million over 20 years ago.

Peyton Manning was the son of a Pro-Bowl NFL QB, with the financial safety net and reputation that entails.

Similarly, Andrew Luck was an upper class kid, as well.

Trevor Lawrence is just a humble, middle class kid from Cartersville, GA. Devout Christian. Just got engaged. If he decides to stay in college for another year, it's not going to be because he doesn't want to play for the Jets.

yeah, not exactly a good reference point lol. The Mannings forced their way to NY with Eli and stayed in Tennessee rather than NY with the Jets.

+1 - it’s not even close.
