Prospect Info: [2020 - 47th ] Luke Tuch (NCAA - Boston University)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

They'll definitely be signing him. He brings a component they are light on and Gorton definitely learned his lesson on being too small in New York.

They definitely value size.

they say the NHL is a copycat league and all the talk this year has been about Vegas & all their big bodies throughout the lineup. Take a look at Winnipeg‘s roster….they are getting ready for some heavy games. It’s probably why every trade proposal has Xhekaj “thrown in”…..not because other teams like him (lol) it’s just to even the trade, lMAO.

As long as we have CC & Hutson in our lineup we will need good skating heavy bodies on our roster. Tuch isn’t a “great” skater but he gets around.

Looks like size never went out of style for several teams and some continue to shun undersized players. Our issue has been the rostering of too many of the same type of forward — a guy like Tuch upsets that trend and will be a welcome addition as he continues to progress.

It'll be nice to have a good 4th line for once instead of just a collection of "meh" players. The year we had a solid 4th line that played the role, we went to the finals. It's a huge piece of the puzzle. I hope Tuch is the first piece to a remodel.

Exactly this^

We have already tapped out our "small" guys, along with small prospects up front: Mesar, etc...

There is no more room for any player sub 6'0" 190lb.
This also why Zegras is not the option at C. The Habs need to get bigger, bulkier stronger up front.
Our Defense is shaping up to be the best we've seen since the 93 cup year. What we are missing is a 6'2" 1C PPG player, like a Pierre Turgeon. Doesn't have to be a super star, but a bonified #1 ahead of Suzuki (who is the perfect 2C) on a cup winning team..
With some lotto luck we get a shot at cayden Primeau or even Celibrini (who is a star and will do if slighter). Outside of Primeau, i say take the best D prospect possible, which will allow us to package out other prospects and WPG/CGY 1sts and our 1st next year if needed to land that 1C..

Once that piece is in play, this team will look really good next year making a run for wildcard... and in a few more a run at the cup.. hugo is creating two windows and it is perfect along with bargaining chips, abundance of picks and cap management.

Finally Habs are being rebuilt correctly...

Do you mean Cayden Lindstrom?

Love Tuch.

He and Florian will improve big time our bottom 6 once we’ll be ready to compete. Two big boys with toughness and skills.
We'll see if HuGo decide to sign him.

If we don't sign him, we get a 3rd round pick. So the choice is Tuch or a 3rd round pick...

Only 1st rounders unsigned get draft pick compensation and the organization has to prove the individual rejected a contract offer.

Well if Gallagher isn't bought out, traded with retention, sent to Laval, or in the stands, I hope he's a piece of the 4th line for the next 3 years and not taking up a spot in the top 9.

Snake Boivert said otherwise recently on the sick podcast. I also had previously thought it was only 1st rounders, but in the past they didn't have to prove they rejected a contract offer, no? We didn't offer David Fischer a contract because he sucked.

Snake's definitely wrong.

And we did offer Fischer a contract, we did it right after the draft, when he was going to college, he rejected it and it allowed the Habs to get compensation. Pretty standard practice clubs would do.

Interesting.

Hughes already wanted to sign him this past off-season from the sounds of it, so he's a 100% lock to be signed and has been as there's a reason why teams were calling MB at the draft to try and trade up to pick him as there will always be GMs that overrate size over skill and a player like Tuch who's big and at times has a real good physical game with skating and mobility with some hands, he's going to be of interest to NHL GMs.

True!

I think those teams that are overvaluing size are those that do it at the expense of significant skill and IQ.

However, size does have its place, especially seeing how the NHL does not apply the rule book in the playoffs in the same way as it does the regular season. “But it’s playoff hockey!”

Hab fans have seen way too many editions dominated by smallish players in the last 30 years to ever consider size as overrated. It’s definitely a desirable attribute in optimizing a team’s asset mix and given the still undersized, not overly physical team the Habs are rostering, someone like Tuch should have a role.

We would all agree the game is much changed from decades past and far less hostile to sub-6’ players, but it’s not like the average size of players is going to trend down in the coming decades. Future cyborgs might be leaner and trimmer, but they’ll all be 6’2+.
