I'm seeing quite a bit of flaws in Athanasiou's game that makes me question his play away from the puck, as he's been quite messy and sloppy with zone exits and defensive assignments.

Yea I see it also. When hes playing well he looks amazing and think he could be a top player. Then when he isnt he looks BAD and can be a borderline liability. Its a matter of getting him to buy in on a nightly basis really. A guy like Iafallo is more dependable and doesnt have ups as high and lows as low but AA can produce more if he can focus.

The flaw that I see with AA is that he too often tries to do everything himself. He'll try and stick handle through 3 defenders and turn the puck over.

But he's also shown the most offensive flare of any player on the team.

I'm glad McLellan split up the first line. Splitting them up evens out the lines and add more balance throughout the lineup. Need to change up the powerplay units as well.

Hes been playing well and seems to have found some chemistry with Vilardi. Maybe Iafallo can make something happen with them.
If that can be a solid line and they bring back the Grundstrom-JAD-Moore 4th line next season the bottom six would be really good. Its that top six that needs an overhaul.
Also the top 4 defense needs some work and they should get some help from the outside there. If they can have Mikey Anderson and Roy as the 3rd pair in a shutdown role theyd be deep on the backend.

Amazing how that works (like Frk last year) a great passer paired with guys that will actually shoot the puck. When does Kaliyev get here?

Come to think of it bring him up replacing Brown, keep Kempe on the line, swap jersey numbers with Wagner and you've got a real AK 47 line.

I don’t consider the 1st line split up until Brown, not Iafallo, is moved off Kopitar’s wing.
