Babcock just clearly demonstrated how both goals were specifically caused by Brown's failure to read the play and do his job.

Fans who follow the puck don't see those things as they develop - but they sure as shit see the defenseman hung out to dry and wrongly assign blame to the guy who actually did what he is supposed to do.

If the defender backs off then you are still looking at a counterattack with no gap control.

It’s not that complicated, farm team can’t defend to save its life but can score. Pro team can’t score but can defend when healthy. At some point they’ll be put together the talented forwards with the young defensemen.

Finally somebody points out Brown's total lack of defensive awareness. Same mistake two games in the row leading directly to odd man rush goals but folks would rather blame the pinching defensemen instead of Derpy lazy coverages.

Ah the old “you must not have played”. Well, I did.

Players are coached to do a lot of things. Only the dumb ones do them blindly without being able to read the play.

The farm teams is very young with very few AAAA players, especially with Lias up half the season with the Kings. Smith-Pelly has been an embarrassment in trying to fill one of those AAAA roles, and they have no goaltenders, that doesn't help.

He's bad, there is no other way to say it, for the last month and a half or so he has just been bad, he should be in the AHL.

His fall-off from how he was playing about midway through has been drastic and one of the most disappointing parts of a very disappointing season all around for the team. Some people got way to ahead of themselves in proclaiming him as a graduated NHL 2nd liner. If he does make it as a 2nd liner he will be one of the worst skating top 6 players in the league, it's that bad. He needs to get a ton stronger and just overpower people with strength and reach or he needs to find a skating coach to see if they can make him atleast a below average skater.
