Sure, and I don't think Cuylle is a good prospect. We certainly weren't about to draft Sokolov, a Russian winger, who went at 61. You could make an argument for Gage Goncalves I suppose. The next forward drafted after Goncalves was Simontaival at 66, then you have to wait all the way until 74 and 75 to get to Smilanic and Foudy. So if you really wanted to take another forward, then between 60 (Cuylle) and 66 (Simontaival), the Kings could have taken Sokolov and Goncalves, and between Simontaival (66) and Laferriere (83), the Kings could have taken Smilanic, Foudy, Gushchin, or Slaggert. Alternatively, the Kings could have taken one of the defensemen or goalies I listed. I'm not saying that trading for Andersson was terrible, but at the time I was surprised when there were still a number of quality defense and (more specifically) goalie prospects available. Our goalie pipeline would be better with Daws or Clang in it.

There's no set 4/4 route. They could protect 5D. Even 8 in theory. Certainly any defenseman that can play, you'd like to keep that guy over a forward. Or over the forwards that the Kings will have exposed for the draft.

Agreed. The kid is 22 years old. I personally have liked his game so far. Not sure what people are expecting, but the one thing I have liked is his board and cycle play in the offensive zone. He's able to keep the cycle going unlike say Brown or Wagner who can completely kill a cycle with bone headed decisions.

The other thing, and this is really subjective, is what he potentially can bring to the team as he gets older and gains more experience. He was the C for WJC team and the 'Silver Medal' incident tells me the guy is a competitor. He was a 7th overall pick and there's more skill to his game than we've seen so far. I think he brings a little more of that grit/compete element and that is sorely lacking even with the upcoming prospects.

Ideally, I'd hope he can develop into a gritty 3rd line player who can contribute offensively.
