We all saw what happened with Winnipeg when Scheifele went down in the playoffs, Little is done. My guess is the Jets would ask for one of Turcotte/Vilardi/#2 to pick a center, Kaliyev and Walker.

Pass. As has been stated, a Laine type is what you trade for after you've got some prospect graduates who turn out and you're already a playoff team. It's just not his talent you're trading for. What type of contract is he going to demand next offseason? $8+ million AAV? On top of the fact you're going to trade multiple high value assets to acquire him.

Without any attention to WPG's needs, I'd say Unprotected 2022 1st, 2022 2nd, one of our 2nds this year, Kaliyev, Kupari/another top prospect.

Only WPG fan that won't make fun of me for it I can think of is @Holden Caulfield .

But I can't imagine that would get done without a Turcotte/Vilardi/2nd OA which of course should be a nonstarter for the Kings, and we'd be right back at square one, we're not in a position to do that.

Edit: judging by the trade thread I just saw they're looking for a top d-man--which we don't have--and a top-C, which we have in prospect form, but wouldn't be worth it for us.
f*** aaaaaaaalllllll of that. Laine is NOT worth it.

The Kings vaunted prospect pool has what, maybe 15 combined NHL games? Lets see what we really have before sending any of it away.

You don't spend your money on fancy rims when your transmission is in disrepair. Scoring wingers from the outside come last, when you can afford to spend excess picks and prospects on them after all the most important boxes are checked.

Agree.

Though your reference to the transmission is exactly why I like the idea of throwing a ton of futures at Tampa for Sergachev, for example. Not that he’s necessarily going to be available, but its the type of piece I think you make that deal for.

If a 22-year-old #1 defender is available, you make it work. That’s really the only piece we don’t have in the pipeline.

Besides signing a LD in the off-season, how about we be really boring for a season or two before we go and give up on any our prized assets?
Boring? Have you watched the King's? You have? Well I have not. Because they've been too damn boring. Boring players playing boring hockey for 4 years. Oh yeah. And they've been getting plugged while doing so.

I'm not interested in boring for another 2 years. After all the shit that we have been through as a country why the hell would we shovel cash to be bored? Naah. Too many options in LA. Too much exciting sports teams for anyone to give a shit.

I'm not saying the King's should destroy the rebuild but for Gods sake I don't ever want to hear fans ok with boredom. Nothing about the King's brings an ounce of excitement. On or off the ice.

letting our prospects blossom rather than trade them ≠ style of play

...but nice tangent you went off there.

I don't think I'd move the #2 for Laine. Would definitely move Vilardi or Turcotte as the centerpiece of the package, but I think Winnipeg would want back significantly more than that, don't think we could get it done without the #2OA.

Laine brings much risk, there is a chance his career could suffer due to work ethic issues, but he truly has a game changing shot, similar to Brett Hull and is still only 22. His ceiling is just at another level from Vilardi or Turcotte.

Got me all pumped up. Even if it's just reliving the last six(!) months in fast forward.

"there's something to be said about the special feeling that you guys are part of something that is just starting"

from like 6:35 on, man. excited about the future.

also lol mark masters is Jonah Hill, prove me wrong

Man oh man!! Our future is going to be exciting to watch and so fun to be a part of as a fan!!!

What’s with all the lovin on Laine?

Kid has been a throwback full 60’ player of legend.

Yeah, he has that one-timer. And that’s it.

Conner passed him on the depth chart in the ‘Peg long time ago.

Hard pass on Laine at any price. Not even worth future considerations if you want you team to win.

We saw what happened last time LA had a 60’ player - we lost an unbelievable amount of games and then terminated his contract. It’s just not viable in LA.

I'm not talking about trading prospects. I'm talking about creating buzz. Condoning being "boring" is insane to me. The King's need to create buzz. This is LA for Christ's sakes.

Part of rebuilding is supplementing the prospects along the way. Stockpiling talent and hoping they hit is stupid. The King's need to at least kick tires. They need a social makeover.

I can do one more season of boring. Even so, I don't think 2021 will be boring like the prior 3-4 seasons. Full year of Vilardi is exciting. I think Bjornfort will make the team and we'll get to see him play good minutes (many with DD). We likely see the likes of Fagemo, Kupari, Turcotte, etc. for parts of the season as well. Not to mention JAD, Anderson, Peterson, Frk, Grundy, etc. It's not the boring old lineup from a couple years ago. Heck, maybe Wagner learns to shoot and/or a breakaway move from Kopitar.....maybe Kempe takes the next step up. I see a lot to be excited about for next year and that doesn't even include the likes of #2OA pick, Madden, AK, Thomas, etc.

Two Stanley Cups weren't enough to create persistent buzz in LA for the Kings. lol

Yeah, should be plenty of buzz this season, built off the last 7 games of last year. A full season of Vilardi-to-Frk is promising, there could be 50 goals in that pair alone. The effective-but-boring guys are mostly outgoing, example Lewis. There will be plenty of training camp battles with spots to win.

I'd guess there's an opening night roster sort of like

Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
Kempe-Vilardi-Frk
Kaliyev-Byfield-Carter
Moore-Lizotte-Wagner
Amadio

With Grundstrom stepping in for Kaliyev after 9 games, maybe, and with Turcotte, Fagemo, JAD, Madden, Fagemo pushing hard for spots too. It's gonna be a war for the roster. Some guys we're hopeful for--like Grundstrom and JAD--may just not quite ever make the cut. That's a nice change.

UFA and Bjornfot-Doughty
Anderson-Walker
Clague-Roy
MacDermid

With the veteran rotating through with the kids, and guys like Hults and maybe even Brickley pushing for spots too.

And all of the above (minus Byfield/Stutzle) is if we don't have anyone emerge from this year's class or any Lizotte-esque surprises.
