Look at this blunder!! They left off the second S in Anderson. Of course, it should be Mikey Andersson-Dolan

There is: Mikey Andersson-Dolan - Yoda"

If a trade for Laine is going to be made, all I ask of Rob Blake is to not go crazy and overpay to get him. The Kings are in a great position when it comes to the cap, this season and next season, that they need to stay the course and evaluate the prospects they have, this season, before they move some of them and can make a big move to push to contend in future seasons. I just don't think they should do it now.

Like I said you don't trade your absolute top prospects to shortcut to make a great team (unless you're getting someone transformative). We should know that firsthand with DL's Cup teams here. Look now at the Dodgers model, most of their best players were drafted and developed by them and when they did trade for someone they never traded their absolute top prospects. Look, the if Kings traded for PLD tomorrow I would not jump off a bridge. I would have reservations depending on what they gave up, but I would be open to it. But where the Kings are now and past history definitely shows that the key to Championships is drafting and developing your own stars first.

I'm not interested in Laine, to be honest. He's elite at times on-ice, but he doesn't drive play, he's dependent on others getting him the puck. So let's say we trade for him. Who is getting him the puck? Kopitar and Iafallo? Okay, so we probably have to trade Byfield, Turcotte, or Vilardi (and who knows what else) to have one pretty good line. Then what? We're still waiting for other players to step up, unless we think we're one Patrick Laine away from a cup (with Blake Lizotte as our 2C). We're still a couple years away from contending and that's only if some of our prospects start to step up. Not to mention, this will be Laine's fifth season in the NHL. He needs a new contract next summer and is a couple years from UFA. He'll surely be asking for more than he's currently making ($6,750,000). What do we do if he's asking for 8 years, $9,000,000 or more? That'll be a nice little nugget of a contract right when we're starting to contend.

what is wrong with that ? i want to keep our best players We have plenty of b prospects that will garner trade interest.

You're not gonna get Laine with B prospects. Someone will give them a better deal than that

Laine is in a very weird spot in his career, his skill is evident, but his motivation makes his value hang in a weird spot.

Nevertheless even though he's a risky player to trade for, someone trying to push their team over the edge will pay for his talent.

Then we don't get Laine I will not lose sleep over losing a winger making over 10 million. He is not a player to over spend on. If Fagemo Spence Iafallo and a 2nd doesn't get it done so be it.

I'd prefer not to get him because the Kings aren't close to making a run yet for the cup. There's no point to making a trade for him.
The kings are trying to become a young cheaper team, and Laine doesn't help with that. Kings aren't in a position competitively yet to add a Richards or Carter. You don't make that kind of a trade and take on that kind of a contract unless you're thinking this guy will give you a shot at the cup. Laine is a bad choice for this team's current state.

Kings can't even make the playoffs.

agree, also I dont think its the time yet for Kings to make big moves, if we get close to PO this year than Ok
Kings shouldn't be making a trade like that until they can win a single round in the playoffs, let alone make it. Kings shouldn't be adding a player like that just to make the playoffs. That kind of a trade would keep the Kings in the bubble for many years to come.

Kings traded for Richards when they knew what the team needed. They traded for Carter when they knew what they had in Voynov.

There's a billion question marks on this team right now. Players need to earn their spots. It's evident that TMac doesn't even know who's making the roster when he's talking about spot availability.

When the Kings make the playoffs once, and the youth establish themselves in their positions then you can make trades for a type of player like Laine. You don't trade for that kind of a guy without even having a solid roster. Kopitar is older now, Doughty is older, and Quick is old. There's zero incentive to take on more cap with the youth not having established roles, and the vets being old.

All of this falls on the younger players. Kings are going to have to get better internally before they consider external players. Let Byfield try to establish himself, Bjornfot, Petersen, Roy, Walker, and the rest. Let's see what these kids got before the Kings make the decision of shipping them out.

Is there a Kings fan among us that’s a closet Jets fan or something ...

f*** Laine!

One trick pony with a primadonna complex and a cancer in the locker room.

Laine will come to the Kings and never score more than 20 goals again

That's not the Kings anymore. There was a, revolution, and they overthrew the coach that made them do that. If they had some talent, they'll score. They just haven't had talent in years.

I get the argument for why we should keep our prospects and not trade for Laine, but it would be nice to have a legit 30+ goal scorer on this team for once. This team just can’t score. Who knows if any of our prospects will reach that mark ever. Laine is a sure thing.

Thanks. You made me look up, first, the Kings goal scorers since 96-97(post-Gretzky), then, I had to check out every team since 96-97. The Kings are one of the few teams that haven't had anyone hit 40 goals in 23 years. Robitaille and Palffy got close a couple times.

Exactly. I don’t anticipate any of our prospects hitting that mark, although I hope I am wrong. Laine is young and in our rebuild timeline. The big question is the price. If it will cost one of Byfield or Turcotte and a 1st I would serious consider it.
