From point of view that Wolanin is another lefty, not a smart move. Hopefully he can step it up and prove me wrong. I think we still badly need diference maker defenceman. And it must be McAvoy or Jones.

Yeah for sure they hope they can get Charlie or Seth but they clearly wanted seven defenders before they go to Europe. All good RHD declined so they have to took somebody else (Wolanin). But for sure D is our big weakness. I even trust that Schneider can play his best game but i am worried that defense is not good enough against Russia or Sweden. I think we have better forward group than Canada and both weak point is D.

They needed a 7th defenseman. Given that Wolanin is just now being added despite being available for quite awhile makes it pretty clear he was a late offer after they couldn't snag any of the defensemen that came available after the first round was over.

I wouldn't add another forward as we don't need wingers and we don't have any huge center upgrades likely coming available. Instead target 2 defensemen with the last two spots.

Fun facts..
Jack Hughes is youngest player to ever represent the U.S. NT at Men's Worlds. His 17 years, 11.5 months is a shade under Phil Housley's 18 years, 2 months from 1982.

14th pair of brothers, alongside Quinn to represent the U.S. together on the same team. 17th occasion. Last was the Hayes bros in '14.

Wolanin is pretty good. I'd put him ahead of Fox .. USA Hockey may not .. but his AHL and NHL experience should bode well. Plus he was great at UND

I am glad that Jack Hughes was added to the roster. I don't expect him to play in the elimination games, but during the group stage, he can get some minutes in a line with some excellent and experienced NHL players, and this can only help him to develop himself as complex forward - future leader. Plus the international hockey experience itself will surely help him too.

Really? Shouldn't an 18-year-old consensus #1 pick be better than players like Derek Ryan, Luke Glendening and Frank Vatrano?

With the centers that the US have feeding that quick n hard one-tine shot that Vatrano has. Frankie will be dangerous especially if the US puts him on the PP.

No, Derek Ryan is highly experienced player, who spent half of his career on big ice in Europe teams. He showed last year that he can be one of the best team players, more than happy with him.
Vatrano is decent addition and Glendening may not reach qualities of Jack on ice, but he is very good penalty killer. All of them are way more experienced players at this level obviously. Jack has never played with grown men and shows quite a lot turnovers even in his age group.

He has no experience with the men's hockey. I do not doubt that in 2 years he will be an absolute monster of a player, but he has this step just before him. This is why I don't expect him to play (or at least not much) in the elimination games. Vatrano, Glendening, Ryan are all complex players, for example Glendening is not very productive but is proficient in the defensive zone. This is something Jack H. still needs to learn, like every junior player. Plus don't forget about the different rink size: On the international rink, the positioning is slightly more important that on the NA one, and reversely, absolute acceleration and dynamic strength play a slightly lesser role - this is why veteran players are often able to outplay the youngsters on the IIHF rink, while on the NA rink they would rather get outplayed themselves. Of course the top pros are able to dominate the game no matter on what rink, but for the juniors this can also be an issue.

Glendening is a terrible player, always has been, and gets absolutely caved in possession-wise.

I expect Jack Hughes to get an asston of ice time against the UK and Italy, for sure

I expect that he play pretty decent minutes in every game. He is youngster but he is our best option for third line center. Between guys like JvR and Kreider he can really show what he can do at this level. If he is ready for NHL next season there is no reason why he couldn't produce decent points in this tournament. Blashill wanted Glendening so maybe he use Jack as a extra forward but for me he should center third line and Glendening should be extra. Ryan is great fourth line center for this team.

I think that for a lot of the players coming, there is probably guarentees along the lines "hey you're going to start on a line with _____ and ______". The same way James Neal thought he was going to play with Monahan and Gaudreau after signing with Calgary in FA.

not disagreeing, just think he'll be seeing a lot of ice during those two specific games because the competition is slim to none against those countries

Italy isn't in our group but the French and GB are. France would have a relatively strong team but are missing Bellemare, Roussel, Auvitu, and Stephane DaCosta to injury and Texier to the NHL playoffs with CBJ. The Finns and Danes look a little weaker than usual, the Germans have a strong team and will be tough if they can pull in Greiss or Grubauer. The Slovaks are playing at home and we get them in their first game, should be a wild atmosphere. Canada is Canada, should be an interesting group. With our roster, we are probably the favorites.

What he said after playoffs i really expected him to play but nice to see least there was some reason why he decided against it.

He easily could have done that after, but I will take it. Still not sure about his loyalty though.
