honestly, the way this team is already built, I would focus on luring Matthew and Brady Tkachuk here - this team has the high end skill, now bring the grit with skill. Matty would be coming in pissed off, it would be like adding the freaking Hanson brothers to this team lol....

whatever defense we can get at this point just further strengthens that top 4- hope a few RDs step up soon.

have you not watched Mathews play...he has no grit to his game....soft as they come

I kept throwing his name out there, like a one last time play for him!! that is absolutely huge!!
Not so much for the Wild. He really needs a full offseason to get back to 100%. With how many minutes he logs and that freak injury still not fully healed the last thing the team needs is him to re injure his ankle or worse.

I m looking forward how this US roster will smash canada. Very strong roster! I hope they get Guentzel and Gaudreau too. Also big respect to USA hockey managment to get so manny world class players on tournament like this.

many of us on the Hawks board just do not get Brandon Saad...why he never seems to answer the call either, even when in back to back years his teammates have shown up. Did USA Hockey screw him over one year for the WJC?? Maybe in my head I am thinking they did, but for a USNDP alumni, this guy really hasn't returned the favor much if at all.

He didn't make the WJC as an 18 year old, but he wasn't exactly lighting the OHL on fire. He was there as a 19 year old. USAH also brought him to the World U17 Challenge after he turned down the NTDP (wanted to play with his brother in the NAHL), so it's fair to say they've shown him plenty of love. I frankly just don't get the sense he's that passionate about hockey.

yeah I just don't get it with him to be honest. he doesn't seem like a passionate guy, the way he handles himself/conducts interviews just soft spoken and ho hum kind of guy. I know he got married last year right around the beginning of June, so that would explain last year (though Anders Lee says hold my beer...), but no reason why he couldn't come and build off his strong second half of the season. we have top LW talent as is, so maybe he knew some of the names already here and didn't want a bottom 6 role - he can play his off wing too, but who knows with him.

Swap Kreider and JVR. Larkin and Kreider played well on the same line last season.
JVR is a top 6 player, him on the third line was something I was trying to avoid. I think Kreider fits better in that role with how he plays vs JVR...we will see what Blashill does with JVR, it will be interesting seeing the LW depth we have here.

USA roster looks good. There seems to be a bit of a turnaround in terms of getting players to accept. I predicted many years ago that USA would finally win this tournament this decade, mainly due to improved development and the randomness of hockey, so I will not be displeased to see an American win. There's also a bit of perverse pleasure in seeing USA win this tournament (one time) when it is the country that cares by far the least about it, at least given the attitudes that some showcase toward this tournament in these forums. Anyway, good luck to USA in this tournament.

honestly, a lot of that is true, but what also matters is when arguably the best player for your country accepts to play back to back years, how can the rest say no thanks?? some of these guys want to play with elite talent, and when Kane is on board others will follow. I imagine the same happened when Crosby played in 2015??

Crosby was a relatively late addition to the team in 2015. The roster looked set but apparently he called and asked to participate. He actually bumped Schenn from a playing spot to the press box, something Hockey Canada usually tries to avoid. Keep in mind that last year Canada still had a lot of refusals even after McDavid was on board. As for USA, Kane is one of the players I most dislike in hockey, but having one of the top players at the tournament makes it more interesting and if it leads to more talent participating then it's a good thing. I assume that Toews is not going for Canada, which is kind of funny given the reputations that he and Kane carry, but if he does then it would be interesting to see USA vs Canada with the two Blackhawks' players as captains.

If Calgary loses tonight would love to see the Tkachuk bros go together and wreak havoc lol

Unfortunately Guentzel and Dumoulin are injured and Tkachuk is out of contract. I dont expect too much from those teams. Rust and Ryan are also good additions but i hope i am wrong and we see least McDonagh and Gaudreau. Jack Johnson also missed one game in Islanders series. I dont know why but after he played in every regular season game it was probably some kinda injury.
