I still think Caufiled will put up some 50 goal seasons. I think when all is said and done he’ll be the 2nd best player in this draft.

Vlasic, Harley, Byram and Wolf over Caufield is definitely one of the opinions of all time
I would absolutely take those 4 over a small one dimensional Caufield AINEC.

Vlasic is one of the best defensive defenseman in the league. Byram is a #2-3 dman. Wolf is one of the best young and upcoming goaltenders in the game. Caufield is a great scorer, but I’d still take the others over him.
Perhaps i have Boldy lower than I should at 4. But Caufield I have zero questions about putting him at 8th. And most teams would rather have Harley than Caufield. In fact, majority of teams.

I like Harley and think it could be a wash with him and Caufield (shouldn't have lumped him in with the others) but I don't think stats that aren't adjusted for playing on an elite team are really what should be pointed to.

Very few if any would take those over Caufield. But let's spew diarrhea into trying convince someone what you say are facts. Maybe in your own reality. Sure.
Byram a 2-3. Maybe a 4-5 currently. Even if he was a 2-3 that is better than one of the top goal scorers in the game? Ok lol
Vlasic one of the best defensive D's. The is news to anyone. Even if he was, which he is not. Not even close to Caufield.
Wolf is good goalie but there are lots of good young goalies and goalies don't go very high in drafts anymore.
Harley it would be 50/50 which team would take depending on teams needs. But based on team he plays for, in comparison, I say Caufield.

I have a striking suspicion that if/when MTL becomes a contender, this logic will not be applied the same way to say players on bottom feeders are better than their core contributors by the fanbase

I don't know that wingers should have a big diminished value compared to centers necessarily... its all about how they play the game. There's plenty of play driving star wingers in the league who thrive with the puck on their stick the majority of the game. They almost play like centers in that sense. Guys like Kane, Kucherov, Marner, Nylander etc in the past have all done it.
I don't think Caufield is one of those types though

One constant theme I’m seeing in a lot of these redraft lists is people ranking Turcotte way too low.
He’s putting up elite analytics and per minute stats this year. He was picked 5OA for a reason. Has always produced. Injuries and Kings slow playing his development (still rarely hits 14-15 minutes in a game) are why it’s taken him a little longer.
He’s going to be top 10 from this draft, at the very least, once he’s given a bigger role. Has been one of the Kings best players this year.

I'm with you on all of that- he's been fantastic this year and I think he'll pass most of the players listed ahead of him- but most people are going to want more than a very good half-season sample and I think that's fair.

Realistically when you're putting up 16 points in 35 games you're probably not gonna make Top 10 unless it's a very bad draft, even if you are very good away from the puck.
That's not to say he doesn't have the potential to improve. But even with a guy like Zegras falling off, he still has the previous seasons in the not too distant past to get him above Turcotte right now.
Now, if guys like Zegras and Cozens continue to flounder and Turcotte improves, then there's a case.
Caufield has moved up a lot on these type of drafts. I think it's fair to say he'll never surpass Hughes. I'd pick Seider over Caufield. If Caufield puts up 50 goals, it will be because of the team around him. If you said top 3 that'd be less controversial.

Uh, check the minutes per game. Last I checked, he was like 40-ish in the league in points/60.
If he was playing 16-17 minutes per game, maybe he'd .75PPG or better. He has nearly the same PPG this season as Quinton Byfield and that's with 5+ minutes less per game and worse overall situations. Sounds like a player who should play more. It's nearly impossible to have much higher of a PPG playing that little per game. If you are nearly .5PPG playing like 4th line minutes, that's elite production leaguewide.

I disagree. The majority of Caufield scoring opportunity comes from either his lethal shot or individual effort. He scored everywhere he went, I don't think Caufield need to rely on the team around him that much to score.
But I still think he goes at #4 in a redraft.

I think it’s fine to have Caufield 4th for now. I just think by the time it’s over he’ll only be behind Hughes. He’s produced fairly consistently. The only times he hasn’t was a 40 game stretch under a terrible coach where he scored one goal and last season when he was recovering from injury. Outside of that he’s consistently scored at a rate somewhere between 45-50 goals per 82. Sometimes it’s higher sometimes it’s lower but it’s usually in that range.
