Lineup for today:

Genoni (Mayer)

Josi - Weber
Moser - Diaz
Genazzi - Loeffel
Kreis - Flauser

Moser - Hischier - Fiala
Hollenstein - Haas - Praplan
Hofman - Kurashev - Martschini
Scherwey - Bertschy - Bertaggia
Riat

Scratched:
Berra - Frick, Fora, Müller, Rod, Ambühl

Interesting to see Moser with Hischier and Fiala, but I doubt the Haas line can match their level from two years ago, and I can't see Hofmann and Martschini working well together.

Yeah, Hofmann-Kurashev-Martschini is nothing you can do at the WC.

On the other side defensive pairings seem to be set. Kreis and Glauser are probably out. And then Fischer has to decide if he plays Frick-Fora or Genazzi-Loeffel. Moser will very probably play his first WC game next Saturday at the age of 18.

There's still a reasonable chance that Kukan will be available. In this case I guess that Moser would be the most likely cut.

Me too, but I can't see Loeffel being cut after playing on the first PP unit during most of the exhibition games. And if the pairs are Josi-Weber, Diaz-Moser, Fora-Frick and Loeffel-Genazzi, the most logical spot for Kukan would be Moser's.

Let me just ask one question did the Swiss Hockey federation put these refs in these two games to help prepare Switzerland for PP for the WC?

Those refs are joke.

It's hard for me to believe you, because I'm looking at torero's post right now

i am speaking skill wise !!

nothing to do with structure or whatever.

And if Hartley takes players that are , skill wise , inferior to others ... then Latvia has a serious problem. But i don't think so. Hartley is a pro.

Historicaly we were close to Latvians ... yesterday and today no.
And again, it speaks for an improvement of the Swiss team on an individual skill level.

And we could have a very good tournament this year. Maybe we could even make it.

Can someone please tell me that this Sterchi character won't do any play by play commentary at the actual WC. I mean Billeter has his flaws but I'd take him over this guy any day of the week.

Friendly games mean jack shit.

Friendly games mean jack ****.
??

i understand friendly games

if it wasn't friendly games, it could have been a more severe score ... beccause Swiss would have played less "light". They were playing badmington at a point in time.
could also have been that Latvians play more physical and do not let Swiss roll our their game ...

Whatever .. the raw talent difference was bigger than in the past years if their was one. Today again.

I don't think you got my point. We still have to make cuts.

Skill wise the entire 1st line didn't play today for us (Daugavins, Blueger, Indrasis) and another winger was being tried out at center. Those 3 players in brackets are the only skilled forwards with C experience this season, apart from Abols. We also played a rookie NCAA goalie just to give him some playing time.

With our depth and missing 3 center forwards + another 3 missing center forwards due to injuries and what not, this pretty much means we had only our 2nd and 4th lines in tact and our 4th line had bubble players playing.

Hartley does random shit during exhibition games. It was the same last year - we lost every single one, if I remember correctly.

This is going to be a different team in a week.

Good !

Thank you.

My point is to say that we never had a WC with so much skill packed on our Swiss team.

You know, i am on the Swiss team board commenting on the Swiss team. Not on a GDT or whatever thread discussing with whoever we are playing against !!

What is name of other commentator, Buh-something ? I like him.

(Maybe) last cuts:

Glauser, Kreis, Hollenstein and Müller. Müller injured one of his fingers yesterday, so he cannot take part.

Stefan Bürer, who also does Tennis, is IMHO the best hockey commentator (or probably the best overall) on Swiss German television. I hope he does the World Championship.

A bit surprised Hollenstein was cut rather than Bertaggia or Martschini, as tonight's game showed exactly why they are limited at the international level. Hollenstein wasn't good, but he has more potential to help at the WC.

Still, good game again, but it shouldn't have been that close, goal scoring has been an issue during the exhibition games. I think that Friday's line combinations worked better, so I expect to see Hischier with Praplan and Fiala and a Scherwey - Bertschy - Rod line against Italy. Not sure how the rest will work out, Hofmann should play with Ambühl and either Kurashev or Haas, and Moser is pretty much set on the third line. Then Martschini should work fine against Italy but I'm not sure he should be a regular against better teams.

Of course things could change if Andrighetto becomes available. Meier could be a key player for Switzerland here :D

Martschini didn't play bad but he had tons of shots and probably none of them hit the net. Don't know if he's the solution for the PP.

Bertaggia probably made it in place for Müller. But I don't think he'll be registered. Getting Andrighetto would be huge and rise the level of the team again. Same for Kukan.

Genoni was really good tonight, no question he'll be the starter next Saturday.

I'd go with:

Josi - Weber
Moser - Diaz
Frick - Fora
Loeffel

Praplan - Hischier - Fiala
Moser - Haas - Hofmann
Ambühl - Kurashev - Riat or Martschini
Scherwey - Bertshy - Rod

Yes I like Bürer best as well but I am not sure if hes avalible for the WC since Federer will be active for the sand court season and tennis probably has priority for him. But I don't know the actual scheudule for that so lets just hope for the best...

As for todays game, I wasn't very happy with both PP Units, especially the first one despite the goal on 5 vs 3. I would like to see Hoffmann or Kurashev on that Unit because it lacks a competent shooter. Im also not a big fan of Loeffel at all but Fischer seems to like him, so he will probably keep his key role on the PP. Martschini, despite his offensive tools was still often manhandeled and pinned agains the boards with ease, so I am not convinced that he'll be able to make a key contribution at 5 vs 5 at the WC but hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

Martschini had a great attitude and fought on every puck, but he was so easily knocked off the puck 5 on 5. I don't think he can be more than a PP specialist at the WC.

No question Genoni is the number one goalie, but it would make sense to keep him rested for the game against Latvia and play Berra against Italy.

I'd go with:

Loeffel

Praplan - Hischier - Fiala
Moser - Haas - Hofmann
Ambühl - Kurashev - Riat or Martschini

I pretty much agree with your lineup, except the Moser-Haas-Hofmann line. Ambühl worked well with Hofmann over three games, and he also worked well with Moser in the past.

Yeah, didn't like the PP either, the goal was due to an individual effort by Hischier. Loeffel has a great shot, but he never used it. They were always trying the same stuff.

Not a fan either, puck movement is too slow and there is not enough support for the puck carrier. It relies too much on difficult cross ice passes.

Maybe they could put Josi on PP1. I liked how he and Hischier could keep possesion in the offensive zone for quite some time on one or two plays together yesterday. They looked really dominant on those few instances. Even if that means that PP2 would get weaker, I'd rather have one good and one bad Unit than two half baked ones.
