This is the thing with the AHL though - it is a 'feeder' league and by virtue of that is a tool for the parent organization. Some NHLers are going to transit through the AHL but a lot of them aren't.
Canucks should have done a better job stocking the farm with depth (what else is new) but it hasn't hurt them this year. Aside from the lack of depth at center the young players on the farm have stepped up and improved, and that's really the only objective for Benning & Co as far as the farm team is concerned.
Does it matter to Benning or the average fan if the team's talent comes up through the AHL? Not really, as long as the talent comes from somewhere.
Will next year be different if Baertschi and Goldobin are gone? Yes, obviously. But others will be signed, whether they are AHL lifers or new kids like Madden. There's a lot of turnover for in the AHL between teams - it's always been this way.
