God I hope
if the right guy falls there won't be that much of a risk, or at least a much lesser one. I think the key is going to be seeing if the goalie (knight) and lavoie or another off the board pick gets picked before us. ( i'm not sold on lavoie)I’d rather trade back/out of #21 and take 2-3 projectable but lower upside players than swing on a boom or bust at #21 like Suzuki or Lavoie. Krebs, Podkolzin, Newhook, Kaliyev... one of those lottery forwards falling to us is the dream IMO.
if we get either one, I'll be dancing for weeks. and be trying to trade up as they got close.I think the two candidates to start sliding this year are Krebs because of injury and Podkolzin because of his new KHL contract.
U
I will be really really surprised, because it goes against everything the Pens have done in the last 10+ years, if the Pens take a Russian forward in the first round...they don’t scout much there and seem to value other things than the most skilled player...unfortunately imo
yeah, not much chance of him falling to us but with the Russian factor and I think I read somewhere that he's already signed to play over there. he could fall enough so we could move up to get him.Podkolzin is seen as a top-3 offensive talent in the draft. I remember one of the insiders mentioning that theres no way he gets past atleast detroit, let alone drop out of the top-10. Krebs is possible though. Injured guys like that have fallen to us before.
me too!I'd be happy for Soderstrom or Podkolzin. Hell, as long as we're not going way off the board for some college-bound ZAR type, I don't really care.
I don’t. I’d not even consider him a slam dunk at 21. It’d still depend on who else is there.Does anyone not like Podkolzin?
I dont even think he's top 10 skill wise but I do like that he has some motor to him. Kind of like Radulov.
The year the Blues stole Tarasenko 16th overall, I commented in my mock (where I had Tarasenko "a gift dropping to slot ten", due to the "Russian factor") how this was a top five guy. I am going to go out on the line right now and say this kid is the best up and down winger in the class, and everyone should start praying their team doesn't pass him by, because he is the real deal, from Russia with love.Does anyone not like Podkolzin?

I don’t care how hard he plays or how mature his defensive game is.. it’s the 1st round.
that it! it's a good reason for some teams to let him slide....we snatched geno out of there . we could do the same with this guy. and I think he might like having the chance to play with geno.Podkolzin signed with SKA St. Petersburg for two seasons. They keep their players through their deals, by and large. So, if you commit to taking him in the first round you are accepting a timeline of him coming over in 21-22. I don't know that every team would want to commit to that.
Interestingly, his timeline for debuting in the NHL coincides with the first season of the Seattle franchise. So maybe he would be a nice plug-and-play winger for a team expected to lose a winger in the expansion draft.
Just throwing stuff out there.
The only thing he has in common with Tarasenko is that they both like borscht.Tarasenko had more goals in the KHL in his draft year than Podkolzin had in the MHL, VHL, U18s and U20s combined.
and both are very good players. The only thing he has in common with Tarasenko is that they both like borscht.
I'm going with Phil Tomasino as our pick @ 21. Going all projection....Tomasino is a puppy who doesn't turn 18 until after the draft but he's got elite speed and agility. In today's NHL, I'll take that kid with superior skating. Skilled player who didn’t produce big numbers because he was playing a limited role (middle 6, 2nd PP) on a Niagara IceDogs trying to make a Cup run with overagers.
