Why isnt theres more talk of taking Spencer Knight if we pick 9th to 11th?

Some scouts across the NHL are saying he is a franchise Goalie.

Markstrom might be too old in 3-4 yrs when were going to legitimate threats and Demko is still very much a lottery ticket.

Why not draft Knight and really really solidify that core.

Goalies can still steal a playoff round all on their own.

Were going to be contending with McDavid Draisaittl Gaudreau Tkachuk etc in our division for years so we better have a solid solid goalie back there.
re already strong in goal with Matky Demer Nd Depietro. We need another elite D to lay with Hughes, who is clearly elite.

Were not getting that in the 9th to 11th hole which is where I'm suggesting we should think hard about Knight

Demko and dipietro are great but neither has ever been called a franchise goalie by scouts.

And if they all turn out then they become assets to.move

How is Demko a lottery ticket yet Knight a franchise goalie? I don't see the logic there.

Draft -1 both played on USNDT U18: Demko 0.902%, Knight 0.896%
Draft year: Demko NCAA 0.919%, Knight USNDT U18 0.903%

Also taking a goalie Top 10 is just downright idiotic considering how long they take to develop and how much of a crap shoot they are.

I don't agree with drafting a goalie with such a high pick, unless this goalie is the next Roberto Luongo or Marc Andrei Fleury.

Personally I think which ever of the three goalies has more value in trade we mive

There are some very very high praise coming from.scouts on Spencer Knight.

fine but I doubt Canucks fans are interested in a goalie. He's ranked as high as 14, and as low as 36. Someone like Luongo or Fleury was ranked in the top 5's pretty much the entire way.

1. We need immediate help, if not this September then next September, not in 2024/5 (2 junior years, 2 AHL years, 2 backup years).

2. a 1st line forward than fails can become a useful 2nd/3rd line. A #1 goal that becomes a mediocre starter become a long drag on the organisation, or a backup which are easy to get.

Draft a Dman or forward there are just too many holes in both of those to go gambling on goalies with top 10 picks.

We need immediate help,

unlikely any quick reinforcement from the 2019 draft is available unless we land a top 2 pick bro.

anyone warming up to Cole Caufield? I wouldn't mind this guy at 9. Maybe another Gaudreau? who knows, love his deadly abilities.

Like I said, this year or next. As much as it would suck sitting through it another top 10 draft next year might be the best thing so if they take an extra year so be it. If they take longer than that, you have worry about the player.

Yah i dont see any point to rushing in our pick this year unless he really stands out. Honestly we need another top10 pick anyways and the top of next year is looking pretty stacked.

Depending if pettersson can figure his game out and we have Hughes from the start no gudbranson and no poo a lot, we will not be a bottom 10 team.

I think it depends on who is available. I am kind of open to the idea of drafting Spencer Knight as well but prefer not to.

I am a big believer in having good goaltending. If you don't have good goaltending you can't win period. We saw how good goaltending can change the fortunes of teams this season. But I think that the impact an elite goalie has on the game has diminished. I don't think we will see a Patrick Roy or Brodeur type goalie any time soon where you have a perceived best goalie in the league winning multiple Cups. A Carey Price in his prime can carry a team to the playoffs but won't be able to carry a team to the Cup finals.

So to me, I hope there is a better/equal positional player for the Canucks to draft. The Canucks have prioritized goaltending under Benning and we have spent relatively high picks on goalies. Given the state of where the team is at, drafting a goalie that high is definitely not the first choice, but if Knight is clearly the BPA then ya I am not closed to the idea.

and even then its a crap shoot. Hardest to predict - goalies. Next - shut down D men. Next offensive D men. The safest picks are always forwards. And you have to be patient with with all of them, something the Canucks are not strong at. They have been much better the last 20 years, but for the first 30 years they tried to rush their prospects and then gave up on them.

I think we make the playoffs next year, or are at least a bubble team at the end of the year. Hopefully the year after we add Tryamkin back into the mix. What we really need is another Boeser, a sniper who can bury the puck.

We are in no rush. This team won't be competing for the cup anytime soon.

While Im against drafting goalies early in general because I believe they are the least predictable position to project, I would not give a crap who will be ready to help us earlier. Get the BPA.

Nice one. Thx for doing the leg work on (the stupid) idea of drafting Knight.

For the record, in the mic'd up draft video last year, Benning said he had no interest in taking a goalie in the 3rd round.

I don't think anything's happened to make him change his stance here.

Looks like 8-9th if nobody jumps us so

Hughes Bryam, Kakko, Podz will definetly be gone

One of Krebs, Dach, Turcotte, Caulfield, Zegras and Boldy

I’m fine with any of those guys and lean towards Turcotte, Boldy and Caulfield over Keenan, Zegras and Dach
All in this order

Fully expect the Nucks to draft a LW based on their history of drafting for needs.

Benning and Co. will see:

1. Centre = EP check
2. RW = Boeser check
3. Dman = Hughes check

That leaves LW open.

The BPA where we're picking will probably fill a need.

Two guys rated lower I would look hard at:

Cole Caufield - development isn't linear, but I think he's a better player than DeBrincat was at the same age. Maybe a lot better.

Lassi Thomson - I don't know if even I'd have the guts to take him top 10 because the production isn't high enough, but I can't shake the feeling that he's the best defenseman in the draft. Improved throughout the year and I just haven't seen anybody better than him. Elite skater and shooter and controls every game he plays.

If its between Zegras/Caufield/Boldy/Dach at 9-10 or wherever we sit I would take Dach. Dach has really high upside but more risk attached. We aren't as set as some might think at C with Pettersson and Horvat, if Dach can come in and take some of the pressure off Petey either by shifting him to wing or by centering his own line I think that would work out great. Dach/Petey/Boeser might be an interesting line too. I like Caufield second most out of these guys I think, his scoring ability is insane
