oh god... don't watch the press conference if you're a Giants fan looking for any kind of reassurance.

Reporter comments on how the production/numbers just weren't there for Jones - both Gettleman and Shurmur chime in "which numbers" as if they have some mysterious secret qb numbers that the rest of the league doesn't?? good grief. Then when the reporter comes back with completion percentage, touchdowns, etc. they follow up with everyone favorite argument - it's not about the numbers, it's the eye test.

And the amount they bring up Eli, unsolicited -- he's okay with this move, we called him as soon as we made the pick, eli is our qb for next year, we wanted to make sure Eli was okay with it, all along we've been speaking with Eli about this, etc. ONE PLAYOFF APPEARANCE SINCE 2011!!! Whyyyyyyyyyy is Eli being treated like a Tom Brady/co-GM of this team at this point?! insanity. This front office legitimately acts like the last 7-8 seasons never happened. mind-boggling.

"Maybe we're going to be the Green Bay model, Kim. Where Rogers sat for three years. Who knows?" Honestly, at this point what planet is Gettelman on? It's as if he's seeing a different reality than literally every other person watching football.

Sal - "Are you saying you drafted a quarterback at number six, and that he might sit for three years?"
Gettleman - "Who knows?!"
Sal (great follow-up question IMO) - "If Eli can play for three more years, wouldn't you take somebody at number six to help Eli do that?"
Then Gettleman gets flustered and again, his best response is, "we don't know."

There's just absolutely no way you can listen to what he's saying and think the guy has a coherent plan for the franchise.

Sorry but it just keeps going.
Reporter brings up screws in Lawrence's foot considering his weight. Gettleman says it's nothing he's perfectly fine.
Follow up - but he only had 4 sacks in two years. Gettleman says it's cause of the screws in his foot.
Then he decides to continue by saying the numbers don't tell everything, as long as Lawrence gets good push, "those ends come screaming off the corner..." And the reporter responds excellently - "but who are the ends screaming off the corner?" To which Gettleman responds "Rome wasn't built in a day."
YOU JUST TOOK A QB AND RUN-STUFFING DT IN A 1ST ROUND LOADED WITH PASS RUSH!

Thanks for taking the time to write this out. Good on the media for bringing the heat.

Williams looks like a great pick. BPA at #3. Bosa would have been great. Sucks they couldn't move down a few slots, net a 2nd rounder and take someone like Allen, but this is a very good alternative. Only issue I have as of now is that looking at their depth chart, they could use another corner. It was something they never addressed in FA. Poole is a nickel corner. Trumaine needs to bounce back. The other outside corner spot is up in the air.

Giants fans need to get the number on the bottom of those billboards outside of Metlife and set up that GoFundMe page to pay for it. Unreal how incompetent that management group is. It's arguably the worst in NY right now. Team has the #6 pick and the franchise has not chosen a direction to go in, based on those kind of quotes above. Take a QB there and it's someone they could have waited on.

Only saving grace is that it wasn't that long ago the Jets had that kind of GM running the show. It's taken a few years, but it looks like we are finally past the BS we were put through. Just have to get this guy fired sooner rather than later.

The Giants have deemed Jones their QB to replace Manning. There's no going back now. He has to be, or the team has been set back at least 5-7 years. He's a game manager, which means they need every other area of the offense to be top notch. They just traded the player that could help him the most to Cleveland. And, they took an interior defensive lineman, when they need edge rushers and have Tomlinson and Hill inside, while they run a 3-4. None of that makes sense.

I think so. Gettleman is a mess.
Sucks. Outside of the Islanders, I am always rooting for other NY sports teams to succeed, especially the Giants. Everything I have read about this pick suggests it is exactly as bad, if not worse than people here suggest.

I don't know what to think. On one hand, you just made a MAJOR reach for a QB that would have been there much later in the first. You want to see him succeed because the Giants can't afford for him to bust after being taken 6th overall. On the other hand, if that happens, Gettleman looks like a genius (despite his stupidity) and you wonder if that extends his shelf-life and the damage he does to the Giants.

I'm a Saints fan, I think we had a better first round than some of the other teams ;)

Seriously, one of the worst looking first rounds of the NFL draft I've ever seen. If the Giants and jets come away with one player each then they've scored.

The worst that could happen for the Giants is that they end up in the same place a few years from now with a much better quarterback class.

There was no market. Buffalo's GM said they made exploratory calls to the top teams, but never even reached a point of discussing offers. Washington never traded up at any point for Haskins. I doubt there was any traction to a NY-Oakland swap. Sounds like the trade rumors were made up to try to induce teams to trade up. No one wanted to pay anything to move up, not for these QBs anyway. Just a bad year to end up in third overall.

Williams is a good pick. Maybe the best player in the draft although you can argue that we had more of a need at edge although if they choose not to re-sign Leo, then we would have that big hole up front next year.

If it makes you guys feel better, as a Browns fan, I hated the Mayfield pick last year.

Mayfield could play. There was concern about his height. The guy from Duke might not be able to play.

I saw Dan Orlovsky yesterday morning on ESPN discussing Jones. There is a major question if Jones is even a starter in the NFL. He didn’t dominate in college. So how is he going to succeed in the NFL?

The frequent respond as been 'he didn't have the talent around it'. Which is a bit of an indictment on Jones's talent. QB position should be elevating his receivers not the other way.
I watched Justin Herbert for 1.5 months and he has no receivers outside of Mitchell. Herbert's game tailed off late in the season but for the most part, he did quite a good job of making his non NFL receivers look good.
