What is the deal with everyone's HD crashing? Samsung 970 Pro when you replace imo.
I have no clue, mine was fine and then it went dead instantly..started beeping - had an error code and couldn't find hard drive anymore. mine isn't running at all so needs a full replace then I have to take to a specialty place to retrieve the data because since the hard drive isn't working/spinning- they need to play doctor and recreate it and then copy it from there..$400 for that..blah

There are cheaper solutions I think. @ChiHawks10 ideas?

The scouting or the hard drive in general? It has the last 7 years of my life on it so yes it's a lot. It's frustrating. Haven't decided what I'm going to do yet.

I'd cry. Over the weekend I thought I accidentally deleted one weekend's worth of reports from my iPad and almost lost my mind. Couldn't imagine years worth of work. Awful.

I have some software that I could try to attempt recovery. If the drive can be read by a dock, though. Think of the dock as basically turning the drive into a USB flash drive. If the drive can't be read, then I can't really do anything. If it won't spin, and isn't recognized by Windows(like if he plugged the drive into another computer) then it likely would need to go to a data recovery place. Those places typically replace parts within the drive that have gone bad, then recover the data.

First thing, @AmericanDream - Plug the drive into another computer as just storage. Is it in a desktop? Or a laptop? Ideally you want a desktop with a drive already in it. If you plug your bad drive into a computer with an already established boot drive, it should only be read as a data/storage drive, rather than booting to it, and you may be able to pull your data off that way. That's basically what I'd be trying to do by plugging it into my dock, and browsing it as if it were a giant USB flash drive.

Oh I definitely did. Not to be dramatic but it kind of felt like a part of me died. In hindsight I should've been backing that stuff up because chances are a hard drive is going to stop working at some point especially after 7 years.

Did you back up to a cloud? I am really anal about backing up but all of my work folders are backed up twice a day ><.

Yeah I 100% relate to you there. That's just brutal. Definitely need to back stuff up. Sorry to hear it.

I'm the same way with my hockey-related stuff. It's saved in the app I'm using on my iPad, it's saved in a cloud/sharing type drive, saved to a laptop, and is in email.

Certain things but not everything. I'd say 75% of my stuff is recoverable, replaceable, or I don't need.

That's what I'll have to do from now on with my hockey stuff.

yep, did this already, it isn't spinning and cant be recognized - so only option I was told is data recovery from a place that has to operate on it, clone it to another device so I can upload back on my new hard drive...it sucks and is costly...going to wait a bit to do this and see how my new hard drive works first.

Yep, that's pretty much how it works. They'll fix the broken part(s) inside the drive, then recover the data. That's really the only option if it can't be read at all.

I'm in this boat with a micro SD card of mine. It died... after I had uploaded 2 years worth of pictures on my phone to it... so I lost 2 years of pictures of my kids, vacations, etc. At least you have a recovery option. I don't really. :(
