2019 Redo: Kakko or Zegras?

That he has as many ES points as Kakko in half the games played?

That's fair. But hardly a big enough sample size in my opinion. Not even half a season. I will give you this one though.

That he's a center?

Playing center doesn't make you better

That he's a much better player in all zones

Kakko was a top-10 forward in defensive metrics, so... nope.

despite playing on a worse team with AHL level linemates?

Henrique and Comtois aren't AHL level linemates. Troy Terry played twice as many NHL games as Zegras. Circling back to your first point: If 24 games is a big enough sample size for you to use it in this debate, you can't turn around and claim 48-game Troy Terry is an AHL level player.

1 out of 4. Almost as much as Zegras no of NHL games compared to a full season.

Are we being homers here?
Kaapo Kakko vs Trevor Zegras

Main board voted 80.4% Zegras 19.6% Kakko
And that’s who will be the better player, not who would you rather have when you already have Lafreniere, Panarin, Buchnevich, Kravtsov & Kreider on the wings.

The Main Boards have been widely known as a wasteland for 20 years for a reason.

I very much like Kakko and I’m glad he’s a Ranger. I think he has a very bright future. I like Zegras a lot too. Would I trade Kakko for Zegras? No. I like the progress Kaapo made last year. I like his commitment to playing a 200’ game. I think his production is going to get a lot better.

I definitely saw enough improvement from Kakko last year to make me confident that he will be an excellent player moving forward.

That said, he needs to keep progressing. We don't need him to be Marcel Hossa or Benoit Pouliot or whoever. He needs to bring the offense.

That should improve with usage though.

One of the things that isn't getting mentioned here is that the majority of Zegras' production last year came when he began to get top 6 minutes. He played 7 games after getting called up for the 2nd time and played 17+ minutes in 5 of them.

Do you know how many time Kakko played 17+ last year? 7 out of 48, ONCE after March 9th.

You clearly don’t know what you are talking about. Kakko is already one of the better defensive players in the league. Your opinion is worth…. Next to nothing.

Not a bad debate. Considering how good Zegras looks it would not be tragic if he turns out better. It’s not like we’re taking about David Desharnais jr, I mean Jack Hughes.

I appreciate that it’s somewhat meaningful but not very much. A huge percentage of the main boards just loves needling the Rangers (and the Leafs). And another chunk of them just look at stats. I admit I’m no zegras aficionado but I think Kakko is going to turn the proverbial corner scoring-wise this season and we already know he a very tough guy to play against in general. I think it’s going to be an awesome year for KK. He’s going to turn a lot of heads.

The bolded really bears repeating around here lately. It's not just the main boards, social media as well. Other fanbases LOVE to hate the Rangers, and we really need to stop entertaining them because it's turning alot of you guys into negative nancy's. Most fanbases would kill for our prospects/young talent. It's one of the few times where the grass is actually greener in NY and we act like its a sandlot sometimes.

Also, i'm keeping thicboi all day

While Zegras was impressive playing in the U-18s in his draft year, Kakko was playing in the U-20s (5 points in 7 games) and had dominating performance in the World Championship a few months later. 6 goals in 10 games, as a draft eligible player, in the men's tourney. We remember seeing Jack Hughes in that and he was not nearly as good, and he went 1st obviously. Kakko is still my pick and I really like Zegras.

Of course things have changed since then and Zegras went on to a PPG in college in his D+1 season and then went back to the WJC last winter and dominated as a D+2 lottery pick should. He was strong in the AHL and good for Anaheim in his brief time.

Kakko struggled in year 1, you could tell he needed work on his skating and on the defensive end of the ice. In year 2, those things were addressed and he was great. Now, he will get the chance to be in the top 6 and I wonder if he will be given a shot on PP1. I think he should.

While Kreider is amazing at screening the goalie and deflecting shots, Kakko around the net has hands Kreider does not have and has a passing ability that would be desired when moving towards the corner to give an outlet for the halfwall player. The PP could get to a different level with his skill set in front of the net.

This should be his breakout year. A clear path to top 6 ice time and possibly PP1 time, if not being the lead of PP2 as the halfwall player on the right boards.

I've watched all of Zegras' games in Anaheim and San Diego, he is a special player with Top 1C potential. Zegras ended his last several games of his 1st NHL season at a PPG (8 points in 8 games) and on a shitty Ducks team with the worst PP ever, coached by a black hole offensive system under Dallas Eakins. He can very well be the next Getzlaf for Anaheim with his skill set and determination.

As per Kakko he is a different player, and really brings different elements to the game, hard to compare. Both players should be something special. I see Kakko being the better all around player than Zegras, and this season is a big test for Kakko. Will likely get the ice time and PP time he needs to succeed and will be under a better head coach.

You've now quoted yourself twice in a row. If you're quoting your own posts when no one else is, that means no one else cares about what you're saying.
The guy who stalks teenagers and has the pleasure of meeting them due to "good fortunate" is the only one who liked your post. When that happens, you know what that means.

When I was a high major DOBO, we used to talk major S about these kinds of people even though they were the ones funding the program. Ahh the memories.

Simple Jack is gonna be fine.

this just comes across sour grapes from a rival fan
