Last year we went all forward and 2 goalie no dmen in the draft . This year we are going heavy on the Dmen but also got Fagemo , Kaliyev and Turcotte. Turcotte is a guaranteed NHL player in some capacity but has potential to be playing top 6 center for us by next year ; McKenzie said it yesterday this kid is not far away . He wouldn’t say this year or next .

Kaliyev is a boom or bust pick , he can turn out to be a top 5-10 player from this draft or turn out to be another Yakupov. Time and dedication will tell.

Fagemo is my favorite pick so far for value . I’m high on the kid. He’s a first round talent who dropped to the 2nd because of overager season , but had an impressive season and even better playoffs . I consider Fagemo a guaranteed NHLer capable of scoring 40-60 pts.

The point for the dmen I was trying to make is what everyone else has touched on

Lintu,Strand,Phillips,Hults,Reddekopp,MacDermid,Ladue are all players who most likely will never make the NHL and if they do play more than few seasons.

Moverare has potential to be a solid 5-6 , Durzi oozes potential and can be a top 4 dmen or never be more than a top 6 offensive dman who plays 12-14 mins a night .

Clague will be making the team this year and has potential to be a top 4 dman and I believe he will , Mikey Anderson is our best dman prospect I love this kid and is going to be an important piece of our next cup winning team. And Walker and Roy are stop gaps but if I had to bet I’d say maybe Roy sticks around a little longer . We have no top end defensive prospects besides Clague and Anderson to go along with Doughty . That’s 3 defenseman .

This is why we are going heavy on Dmen and Bjornfot is going to be loved here after we picked him I didn’t know or ever heard of him so I started doing research and reading up on him watching him play I think he’s a guaranteed NHLer . Top end could be top 2-4 dman , lower end a solid 5.

Another good Swede D available - I think we still have our 7th (188) pick.

Hopefully since Kopitar. I assume you meant forward selection and omitted Doughty.

Well, technically Schenn was drafted after Doughty, so Turcotte is arguably our best pick since Schenn. If Vilardi can get healthy, he and Turcotte are 1A/1B in terms of best picks since Doughty. I think both guys, but especially Turcotte, project to be better than Schenn.

Doughty > Kopitar >> Turcotte/Vilardi

True dat.

Really interesting shift in trends.

During Lombardi's tenure, 27 of his 82 picks game from the OHL marking a total 33% of the picks coming from the OHL. 11 of them came from Europe (13%).
During Blake's tenure, 8 of his 23 picks have come from the OHL (35%). Not a huge shift. BUT, 7 of his picks have come out of Europe (30%).

So that means the other 8 picks Blake has utilizes has come from the WHL, QMJHL, USHL, NCAA, and Lesser leagues (BCHL, High School, etc)

Andre Lee is local to me and I've met him multiple times. He bought a car from my work through my best friend. He is a really nice and polite kid.

Anyway, he's got a great set of hands and is a really smart player that can play PP or PK. His skating needs work as he hasn't grown into his frame. He scored some clutch goals for the Stampede and was a key player on their 2nd line...

It's not often I feel this stoked after a draft.

With Turcotte and Kaliyev, you get two sexy swing-for-the-fences top line offensive talents. Seven other picks means you don't even have to worry too much about who they all are in order to know that the crop is going to yield some fruit.

Pretty rad.

I love the drafting under Blake so far . 2017 all our picks have signed besides Hults I believe so far , remarkable . 2018 has Kupari , Thomas, Sodergran as almost sure fire NHLers in some capacity . And this year he went for boom players in Kaliyev and Turcotte who might be the best players we have drafted in 10 years
