If they stay at 5, it will be Byram, Turcotte, Dach or Zegras. I don’t see any other player on their list based on what they need and BPA. I know that there will be some Boldy, Caufield & Cozens talk which is understandable but those 3 won’t be the pick if I’m betting in Vegas.

The main reason I can see them going with Zegras or Dach over Boldy and Caufield is purely because Centers are valued higher than Wings. I would not be annoyed if they took either of those two however because they project to be first line talent. Cozens is probably my least favorite of all that I mentioned.

If Byram and Turcotte are gone and that Detroit rumor has any legs at all, the logical business side of my mind thinks that the Kings shouldn’t even blink and take it since they will still have a great pick.

The draft is really nothing like it was 20 years ago. It’s technologically superior. Analytics weren’t even a thought back then.

The Kings will do fine.

Not gonna lie, a bit scared.
Yeah today's a really big day. While we all want that stud future core player they also need to make sure they don't mess this up & make sure to take a guy that has a HIGH probability of success. Meaning get the great player but also one who is very likely NOT to end up a bust.

I’m personally excited about Saturday more than the first round.

In the first round, we will get a difference maker caliber prospect. Maybe 2.

The 33 pick however is magic, with 29 other GMs have a good long time overnight to drool over that must-have guy at the top of the 2nd round.

I smell a trade down for more assets where we can target the Grewe, Légaré, Rees type prospects with volume of picks.

Thought that was a really good discussion in what I think I recall was The Athletic, right? About how after day 1, guys re-evaluate and those picks at the top of the 2nd are as good as gold to get 'your' guy.

I feel like 5-7 years from now that Newhook is going to end up being a top 5 player out of this draft. I wish there was a way we could get another pick in the top 10 to snag him. I can't see the value of passing on Zegras or Dach at pick 5 but it sure would be great to have Newhook......

Uh oh, bad news. I have it on good authority Blake just received a call from Shero...something about saving Kings hockey in LA.

I'm good to go. I can't imagine them moving down. They are definitely making a pick at 5 and are at the very least getting an excellent prospect for us moving forward. Because of that, I am pretty relaxed about today. I just hope they pick the BPA in hindsight because we really need to hit a couple of homeruns this draft, but especially this pick. This cannot be a failed pick.

This from The Athletic this morning...

DGB Grab Bag: Draft day strategy, a Gary Bettman proposal...

Los Angeles Kings: Will be looking to add a prototypical Kings player, which might be tricky since scouts say this year’s draft doesn’t have many over-paid guys in their 30s.

LOL, I am just glad that they've finally made speed and skill their top priority.
