I think Jost is probably lighter than 200 lbs these days. In the last interview I heard with him he was talking about losing some weight and working on getting quicker and more athletic.

All we heard last summer and throughout training camp was how great he looked and his teammates were impressed but then the real season started and it didn't really translate. I loved the way he finished the season and still have high hopes for him but I'm not going to buy into any of the offseason praise. Have to see it in October.

Team could still use another top 6 winger. Real close to being a true contender though.

I agree, but the chance to fill that void will be given to players like Burakovsky, Donskoi, and Jost.

If the Avalanche don't find a solution by season's end, then I have a feeling I know how Sakic will repurpose some of the $11.65M coming off the books next summer (Barberio, Barrie, Connauton, Nieto, Oprik, Wilson)

To go with the 5-6 we will already have too. He set us up to avoid a cap crunch for a while. Im kinda hoping hall doesn't want to stay in jersey and sakic and Mack can pitch to him. Would rather hall than panarin! I'm sure by the deadline if we are clearly missing and needing one more top 6er we can buy one

I'll give this a shot (Game 1), nothing earth shattering:

Landeskog - MacKinnon - Donskoi
Burakovsky - Kadri - Rantanen
Jost - Compher - Wilson
Nieto - Bellemare - Calvert

Girard - Makar
Zadorov - Johnson
Barberio - Graves

Grubauer

We have a young team and we have gotten bigger despite losing Carl.

Using the lines Sakic talked about(Jost-Naz-Bura second line) of...

Landeskog - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Jost - Kadri - Burakovsky
Wilson - Compher - Donskoi
Nieto - Bellemare - Calvert
Kamenev/Greer

Girard - Johnson
Zadorov - Makar
Byram/Cole - Connauton
Barberio/Graves/Rosen

Grubauer
Francouz

...we have ages of...

26 - 23 - 22
21 - 28 - 24
29 - 24 - 27
26 - 34 - 29
22/22

21 - 31
24 - 20
18/30 - 29
29/24/25

...and sizes of...

6’1”215 - 6’0”205 - 6’4”215
5’11”191 - 6’0”192 - 6’3”201
6’1”221 - 6’0”193 - 6’0”190
5’11”190 - 6’0”198 - 5’11”186

Interesting lineup. Only thing I'd say is that I'd be surprised if Rosén isn't ahead of (at least one of) Barberio and Graves.

What do you think Hall (with extension) would cost at the deadline?

I'd assume that Sakic doesn't morgage the future on a pure rental and only considers it if he's extended.

Sakic definitely wouldn't mortgage the future. I think he'd take a run at it if the return wasn't insane or wait till july. Either way I think we will add a good top 6 guy at the deadline for the playoff run.

Landeskog-Mackinnon-Bura/Donsk
Jost-Kadri-Rantanen
Wilson-Compher-Bura/Donsk
Nieto-Bellemare-Calvert

G-EJ
Zadorov-Makar
Rosen(Cole)-Connaughton/Byram

Grubauer

Landy needs to stay with Mack to play center for him in the defensive zone. Can't put Bura-Mack-Rants together imo.
Also Rants will be a great playmaker for Kadri.

Not really. It's almost impossible for teams to have six true "top 6" forwards in their lineup. Usually at least two of those players will be tweeners. It simply costs too much.

We've got four legitimate top 6 forwards on this roster as it stands.

We could afford it because our top two centers make 10M combined. Plus we have a top line that we need to keep together.

Healthy lineup, I'd like to see:

Burakovsky - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Landeskog - Kadri - Donskoi
Jost - Compher - Wilson
Calvert - Bellemare - Nieto

Girard - Johnson
Zadorov - Makar
Cole - Byram/Connauton/Rosen

Grubauer
Francouz

I'd be curious to see something like this to start the season:

Landy - MacK - Burakovsky
Rantanen - Kadri - Donskoi
Landy lite* - Jost - Compher
Calvert* - Bellamare - Nieto
( Greer | Kamenev )

Zadorov - Makar
Girard - Johnson
Byram - (nightly raffle winner until Cole returns/Byram claims EJ or Zads' top 4 spot)

Grubauer
Francouz

Unless Bowen just is not ready to handle NHL competition. Though I'd be a little concerned about stagnation if we have to send him back to tear apart the WHL again...plus I just don't think he'll need it / struggle badly enough to get sent down.

Let's see if Bura can cut it in the best position we can put him in while letting Mikko & Kadri develop some chemistry...even if they end up only playing together on the PP...and letting Jost start of in the 3C gig he was killing last season. If he thrives then Donskoi is surpassable even if Bura takes off in that spot. Also leaves a great checking 4th line. On the backend I'd split up turn-n-burn to try & keep one of Makar, Girard or Byram on the ice at all times; while crossing my fingers with EJ and hoping that Byram progresses quickly enough to take over some of EJ's minutes over the course of the year.

Would be nice to upgrade upon Bura & EJ if we got the chance, cause then we'd be truly stacked across the board...but they could certainly surprise me, we still have ammo to work with if they don't, and we may get internal upgrades out of Newhook / Jost / Kaut / Meloche / Timmins / Helleson, down the line, requiring only stop gaps at those spots.

Solid all-around.

The additions of Donskoi and Bellamare may seem underwhelming offensively but they are solid players who aren't liabilities.
And Varly is gone so that's probably better because he's so inconsistent.

I feel like you guys will challenge for a top playoff spot in the West if the team stays healthy.

I'm telling you the more I look at this team and the more excited I get. The team is very well built on paper. Of course a few guys need to take an extra step forward (especially Bura and Jost) but when you look at what each player brings as far as offense/defense is concerned the team is very well balanced throughout the lineup. It's so well balanced that you can mismatch players and still have the same type of team. I find that aspect very important because if one player goes cold you can switch a few players around to take advantage of a hot player and not change the makeup/identity of the team. This team hasn't had that capability for a very very long time. Exciting.

I never really liked moving Rantanen down to the second line last season. I felt like it was a waste because he didn’t really have anyone to play with (no offence soda).

But now that we have Kadri, I don’t mind the idea.

Btw, looks like Flames fans really wanted Kadri.

I'd imagine we are going to see all kinds of line combinations and D pairings throughout games. It just depends on the matchups and the line synergy.

Landeskog -Kadri-Compher will be a royal pain to deal with.

Burakovsky - Mack - Rants (let's see if the new guy is that talented)
Compher - Kadri - Landy (for maximum annoyance to play against)
Donskoi - Kamenev - Jost
Calvert - Bellemare* - Nieto

Greer gets in whenever someone gets hurt.

Yeah, that's just the version that makes most sense to me, and so what I'd most like to see.

And I'm afraid of the penalties that line would take  Landy's gotten a lot better at walking that line, but playing with Naz & Jimmothy might bring back some bad habits lol

Good God! If the Avs get the rep for being the incredibly talented team that should've won the SC but for dumb penalties then I'll have to give up on following the team.

Plus I just think that MacK n Mikko do better separately; whereas Landy is a huge help to Nate and Mikko should be a great fit next to Kadri.

Just put Jost at center and Wilson on the wing on that 3rd line and I think this is the lineup I would roll with as well.

I feel like this just hasn't been the case.

I'm worried if we take Rants off of the top line Nate won't have another high skill guy to play with.
