Raffl makes everyone better, so does Lindblom. NAK put up good numbers playing with these "losers."
Pitlick is the real disappointment after a solid regular season.
Can't just blame Grant and Thompson, good players raise line mates up.

Bunnaman I'm not worried about, he just turned 22 in April, a bright future ahead of them.
Farabee has awful metrics, but that's really the product of a game so putrid it made Stewart resemble a NHL player.

But that's the problem assuming young players can just step in, Couts at 19 was bad in his first PO experience. Farabee has been up and down, and both have exceptional hockey IQs.

I'm not against playing Frost, I just think people are being unreasonable expecting him to make much of a difference - odds are he'll fall flat on his face (yes, there are exceptions, JVR, Giroux at 21, but he was far more ready than Frost).

Thompson is so bad there isn't much to lose, but that doesn't mean there's much to gain, either.

Both were bottom 20 in the NHL this season of ~370 regular forwards in terms of their relative defensive stats. They bleed chances against and drag team-mates down with them.

Pitlick put up his great stats mainly with Raffl, Laughton and Bunnaman at C.

Raffl does make everyone better. But Thompson has negated that.

I dont even care that much about playing the young players!

Heck, Laughton to 3C and Raffl to 4C would be an improvement on them.

Dominoes, JVR showed up out of shape (or out of fire).

JVR should be a key player, in which case he pushes Laughton down to 3C and Farabee to 3LW and Grant to 4C (Grant actually hasn't been bad, he's just out of place at 3C).

Raffl and NAK get hurt (one has been out I think every game), JVR goes MIA.
Suddenly not only do Grant and Thompson stay in the lineup, but AV is forced to play both Farabee and Bunnaman.
So two slow centers and two raw kids in the bottom six - not a good combo.

I think Fletcher will dump JVR after this season, I have to think both AV and Fletcher are soured on him.
If Lindblom returns 100% next season, Farabee slides down to the bottom six with Laughton and Raffl, with NAK and Sandin on the right side and no need for JVR.

For old time sake, you know who would have been fun this series? A non injured Morin. A guy with size that can clear the crease. The Montreal forwards have had their way around the net.

In this hypothetical:

He would struggle mightily in a series like this. His processing speed is very slow & the Habs would feast on him

We have Myers who is developing into everything we hoped Morin would be and more

People should move on from Morin. He will be lucky if he can carve out an NHL career at this point.

I wouldn’t move on from him but I wouldn’t have his name written in the lineup in pen. If he can get himself healthy he could turn out to be a good 3rd pair guy at least. Or maybe even a trade piece if our other guys turn out as well

He's 25 with 9 games of NHL experience and he's played a total of like 35 hockey games since the end of the 2016-17 season.

Two significant knee injuries.

He's got a long road ahead of him if he chooses to continue his hockey dream. It's not out of the realm of possibility, but I agree, he's nowhere near figuring into the Flyers plans right now.

Just looking back at our draft picks since Morin (2013), it's possible we "missed" on four of Hexy's 1st rounders - Morin, Rubtsov, Patrick, and O'Brien.

But we hit on Sanheim, Provorov, Konecny, and Farabee.

Still too early to tell on Frost.

Morin was Holmgen's pick.

They hit on Frost.

I mean, I hope so, and it looks that way. I'd still like to see him full time for a season to get a better sense of his NHL game. I'm just not used to the Flyers getting nice things.

O'Brien and Rubtsov could also end up being decent.

Frost needs to hit on some bicep curls and protein shakes.

Where does he fit next year?

If Patrick is ready to go, which seems like a good possibility based on Fletch's last update, we have a logjam at C.

Coots
Hayes
Patrick
Frost
Bunnaman
Rubtsov

It would make sense for one of Patrick or Frost to play wing rather than 4C, but that also has its problems.

G / Jake
Lindblom / TK
Frost? / Farabee?
Laughton / NAK
JVR/ Raffl
Sandin / Allison

I have my doubts that Patrick makes it most of the season next year.

G - Couturier - Frost
Lindblom - Patrick - TK
Bee- Hayes - Voracek
JVR- Bunnaman - NAK
Raffl

Trade Laughton or toss him in as trade to Seattle to take JVR. Clears cap, and doesnt saddle us with a high contract on redundant players

He still could carve out an NHL career. I'm just not sure it would be in Philly.

I could see Morin in an 8th D role here next season. He's very cheap and if healthy there is still a little upside. He is under contract as well so there is that. They could keep him up over a 14th forward at least.

It's better to have an extra D on the road for emergencies and you can keep a 4th D pair for practice, while still allowing you to have a 13th forward. Basically could lose 2 from either position (if you dress 7 D in the advent of 2 forwards out unexpectedly).

Plus who knows how many players they will be allowed next season. Probably a few extra black ace types compared to normal rosters.

When Frost is ready, they'll find a spot for him. Those kind of issues resolve themselves.
Patrick ??? Who knows? Even if he returns, they'll write him in pencil until he survives a couple seasons.

G - Couts - Voracek
Lindblom - Hayes - TK
Farabee - Frost - Patrick/NAK
Raffl - Laughton/Bunnaman - NAK/Sandin

Patrick is RH, so he can balance Frost, both are centers, each could be moved to wing if there's a logjam.
That's some pretty impressive forward depth before you get to Laczynski, Allison, Sushko, Twarynski, et al.

I figure Fletcher will dump JVR, maybe take a bad contract in return and buy it out, eating some of the cost.
Someone will happily take a 20+ goal scorer if we defray some of the cap hit.

It's a shame that the staff refuse to move bad players out of the way to add in a far superior young center.

Just proves that Frost can't win a spot with quality of play.

First Frost has to show that quality of play, didn't in the NHL and really didn't in the AHL.
Just compare to Myers and Farabee in their AHL cameos when they totally dominated play.
Frost was only 20, so I'm not worried, but don't assume what hasn't been demonstrated.
