Farabee sat one game after he laid an egg (a performance below the Stewart line).
Frost wasn't going to play, period, obviously AV didn't like what he saw, he was sent down before they started winning, much less before the TDL.
Raffl and NAK had overlapping injuries (i.e., one player short almost every game).
JVR got himself into AV's doghouse by, well, "dogging it."

As I've pointed out, Grant and Thompson didn't block Frost, who was sent down before the winning streak and well before the TDL. So he was out of the picture.

The player blocked was Bunnaman, who was solid defensively at 4C (though MIA offensively).

So, better than Grant and Thompson..

Well,
Thompson CF 33.66%, xGF 27.51%
Grant CF 39.13%, xGF 34.76%
Bunnaman CF 36.36%, xGF 15.61%

Of course
Pitlick CF 36.27%, xGF 30.94%
Farabee CF 43.43%, xGF 32.26%
JVR CF 40.63%, xGF 37.19%

And we have
Ghost CF 39.13%, xGF 42.33%
Hagg CF 42.86%, xGF 43.61%
Niskanen CF 39.38%, xGF 37.22%

AV, pick your poison!

Well... they for the most part had to play with Grant or Thompson at C. What do you expect?

Before they joined the Flyers they both had some of the worst relative stats in the league.

So still no point to bring in Grant and Thompson. Let alone play them both

Gudas > Niskanen in the playoffs, and it's not close.

The Caps haven't been doing well at all but Gudas has easily been their best D, statistically speaking. Meanwhile Niskanen has arguably been our worst D.

Gudas
55.17 CF% (6.03 rel)
51.16 xGF% (4.65 rel)
Niskanen
40.09 CF% (-8.10 rel)
39.63 xGF% (-9.38 rel)
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
I wish we had Gudas right now. He was so under-appreciated.

This a million times.

Bunny has played well. No one should be looking for scoring out of the 4C. If NAK gets well, he with Bunny and Pitlick make up the fourth line and Thompson can sit. Bunnaman wont win a lot of FOs but he’ll do a lot of other things better than Thompson such as skating And scrumming which is kind of important in this game.

Raffl makes everyone better, so does Lindblom. NAK put up good numbers playing with these "losers."
Pitlick is the real disappointment after a solid regular season.
Can't just blame Grant and Thompson, good players raise line mates up.

Bunnaman I'm not worried about, he just turned 22 in April, a bright future ahead of them.
Farabee has awful metrics, but that's really the product of a game so putrid it made Stewart resemble a NHL player.

But that's the problem assuming young players can just step in, Couts at 19 was bad in his first PO experience. Farabee has been up and down, and both have exceptional hockey IQs.

I'm not against playing Frost, I just think people are being unreasonable expecting him to make much of a difference - odds are he'll fall flat on his face (yes, there are exceptions, JVR, Giroux at 21, but he was far more ready than Frost).

Thompson is so bad there isn't much to lose, but that doesn't mean there's much to gain, either.

So with niskanen out who plays with provy?

I'd say ghost but it's avs call and I can see him splitting the Myers sanheim pair.

Friedman, like Frost, will get a full shot at starting next year.

You rarely see a guy get inserted for the playoffs, unless he finished the year with the NHL team (i.e. AHL promotion and plays well enough to stay in the lineup), or a top college player who comes out after his season is over (say York or Brink for next year's playoffs).

AV has gone full dinosaur this series. So nothing can be dismissed at this point unfortunately.

It's incredibly unlikely, but as you said, possible. It would defy any sort of logic or rationale, and thus end my hope that AV is capable of making good decisions in terms of personnel. Id happily forego watching flyers hockey at that point, since itd be pretty clear he has no intent of actually playing to win. And if the goal isn't to win, id rather not torture myself anymore than I have to.

Friedman - Ghost would be more likely, since they were the "4th pair" in preseason/RR.

I threw in the towel on Hakstol about the same time (first round against the Caps that year).

Friedman over Ghost would have no basis in reality, and qould prove, to me, AV is more concerned with whatever petty squabble he has with Ghost as opposed to winning.

Hagg over Ghost is bad enough, but i can 'understand' dinosaur hockey guy mentality, even if i don't agree with it. Friedman would be inexcusable though. Thankfully, i don't that AV is that dumb.

Yeah I don’t think it’s likely but I guess you never know. Probably the pairings of what I posted is likely it.

In theory, I could get behind this if it didn't mean breaking up Sanheim-Myers or have Provy play with Braun, or (barf) Hagg.

So, no, it is not likely. It would mean scratching Hagg or Braun, which we know isn't happening, anyway.
