Are you saying you'd do a Galchenyuk for Iafallo deal? Because I'd also do that trade.

I'd do Galchenyuk+pick for Iafallo. Galchenyuk has a high cap and a UFA so I would need a pick to compensate (could be Conditional). But yeah I'd make that move.

Iafallo really doesn't have a spot on the team in the future. We are actually strong on near ready LWs in our system but lack RW. So when they trade Toffoli and Lewis this TDL, we wont have many options to call up. Galchenyuk can fill that spot

Iafallo certainly has a spot on the team in the future; hopefully the correct one.

Why would we give up a good, cost-controlled asset for a UFA + a conditional pick and why do we care about lack of RW depth for the rest of the season in the event Toffoli and Lewis get moved? Are you assuming he would sign here after the season?

He seems like the worst kind of player to bring in on an irrelevant team playing irrelevant games and then judge his performance in said irrelevancy to bestow a UFA contract on. Also, how long does that contract need to be for? They aren't going to be good next season either so what's the point?

I think the Kings should be focusing on reclamation projects like this. I was kind of bummed when we missed out on Fabbri, in a throwaway season we should be taking swings on high potential players.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading people around the league were surprised about the Fabbri trade, they didn't know he was available. I would have done bad things to have him here.

Why is everyone so quick to trade Martinez? Our blue line is already a filthy mess and you want to move one of two serviceable blue liners we have left? He’s still got another year on his contract and will be a good mentor for some of the youth. What is next years d-corp going to look like without AM?
He looks close to done to me. The D isn't any better with him in the lineup. You don't give him away but if he fetches a good price you do it.

I was looking forward to getting both of MTL 2nd rounders but then he goes off and tries to commit suicide... Hopefully, he comes back soon and we can work something out with them

for me it depends on what is offered. There are very few d-men available at this year's deadline so we could get an overpay.

I would do this too. Make the pick a conditional 3rd if Galchenyuk walks if he re-signs it turns into a 4th.

This is 'rumors and news'...and this is news, so putting it here, as would get lost on last night's game day thread, as it is less frequented now.

Rumor - Kopitar is now effective on the PP!
News - Kopitar was moved off the half wall, where he does nothing - cannot MAKE PLAYS, or shoot and has almost zero options...and was high slot / point last night. Just seeing him there, handling the puck
was amazing. He looked alive and that he was able to orchestrate and have MANY OPTIONS...he looked engaged and actually looked like a threat. He even shot 2 times within a few seconds in the same spree.
The first one, rang off the crossbar...and second hit Lundqvist up high....2 shots that got through and both almost scored. This was the first time in years, that Kopi looked dangerous on a PP.
This is rockin good news. I hope they keep him there. They had better.

I really think it's ****ed up how they are handling Kovalchuk. They are basically sitting him in the hopes that he gets so fed up, he asks to be released from his contract. In reality, he's no worse than 2/3 of our roster.

The Kings signed him, that's on them...they should be handling this better.

I don't see why Lewis playing over him that is for sure

Lewis is now arguably the worst forward in NHL...no way, should Prokhorin and Grundstron NOT be playing instead of him...and yes, even Kovalchuk, but understand that won't happen.

Reasons for Lewis to be out of lineup and traded or waived.

1. he does almost nothing.
2. the Kings acknowledged the fans want and deserve ENTERTAINMENT. Lewis is the least entertaining player in the NHL and maybe all of sports...but I am not sure...I do not watch all sports.

Reason for Lewis to be in the lineup: to show he has a pulse and can stand upright on skates, allowing us to trade him for...something.

That's all I've got.

Trevor Lewis is a perfect example of how possession doesn't help if you can't score. Everyone knows that Lewis tries hard but has hands of stone. Great possession numbers almost every year, but no results on the scoresheet.

Boring as hell to watch, but he doesn't hurt the Kings much.

Kovalchuk, on the other hand, is like a live hand grenade on the ice. Problem is that he blows up his own team most of the time. That's the reason Kovalchuk is not playing.

Well you can argue that if we have the puck the other team doesn't, so that sorta helps but yeah boring as f***.

I dunno, reading this thread I get the feeling that if our top six was littered with 40 goal scorers and our bottom six had 5 goal scorers, everyone would be bitching about the bottom six not doing anything worthwhile....

29-46-6 with Kovalchuk in the lineup, 64 points in 81 games, .395%

14-14-5 without Kovalchuk in the lineup, 33 points in 33 games, .500%

They're not a good team without him, averaging 1 point per game is still bottom 10, but they seem to be a better team without him. If they're trying to put the best product they can on the ice, "tanking with dignity", then keeping him out of the lineup is the way to go.

So, you scratch him like anyone else....when’s the last time you heard that we’ve scratched someone indefinitely?

What’s our record this year with Kopitar in the lineup? Guarantee it’s not even close to .500

They are sitting him because his play was worse than almost everyone on the roster. There's a pretty big difference in W-L records when he's in vs. out, and it's not in a good way. The only reason he's still on the roster is because of his clause, otherwise he'd be riding the bus.

Besides, they aren't sitting him until he gets fed up, they are sitting him until his bonus is paid. Once that's happens there might actually be a market for him.

It's weird, no doubt about that. There must be something they don't like. It happened last year with his skill practice week or whatever it was. Happening this year. Of course management could also not know what they're doing. Could also be some combo of the two.

True. Barely above .400 with Kopitar.

You say that without knowing what has been discussed behind the scenes. I’ve always had the impression that something has been agreed in principle and that they are waiting for this bonus payment before whatever has been agreed happens. I say that as someone that likes Kovi and approved of the deal to sign him. However like you, I don’t know what has gone on but I think by the 16th we will know more.

The one I don’t really understand is Wagner. His development seems to have stalled and if anything he’s regressed as he seems to be thinking to much. His IQ level is highly questionable and he’s even struggling with simple passes. I suspect his zone entries are pretty good but that’s the only thing he seems to do well right nowI really think he needs a good run down in Ontario and then Grundström gets to play.

As much as I’d like to see the likes of Lewis gone, if we want to trade him he needs to play. I genuinely don’t see a market for him or most of the other guys we want gone, but letting them play is the only way we find one.

Lewis and Clifford aren’t the issue. Not every player is a 40 goal scorer. Most fourth liners aren’t even 10 goal scorers. Kings have no real threats outside of Kopi. Age is taking its natural course on Carter and Brown really. The team lacks finish and pretty much an entire second line. Probably a first for that matter.
