Kopitar is the least of our worries, we need to move Quick and Carter which is looking more and more impossible.

I’m not sure why we’re rehashing the “we should have traded Carter after X season”? He’s been nothing but a valuable part of two Cup winning teams (and 1 WFC) with a cap hit of $5.2M. Until his injury, he was a valid top 6 C. He’s still has value. He’s a 3C or 2W at a salary of $3 (this year) and $2M for next two years - at the same $5.2 cap hit. For a team trying to get the bottom of the cap range (Ottawa), that is valuable. Even staying with the Kings - everyone keeps saying “get rid of TT, AMart, Quick etc”, but we do need to hit cap floor. Carts is valuable in that role, for a $2M salary. I don’t see LA moving him. We do need to have some veterans to show our young players what it takes to win - and for that, $2M is a small price to pay.

Carter is going to play an ideal role in our middle six I think and help bring the kids along the way . He is not our problem , Quicks style just doesn’t work in the new NHL anymore , he is way to out of position and with the speed the puck moves nowadays Quick will never be a top goalie again unless he’s behind a defensive juggernaut team that can help him clear the puck after the initial rebound. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again we might actually Make the playoffs if it were Campbell or Petersen in net all year . They play positionally sound and dong kill momentum giving up a goal being 3 feet out of the net

I don't think many people will agree with you here.
We also lose the chance of permanency ruining Peterson
Do you remember what we did to Bernier?

If Toffoli keeps it up, do we keep him? Everyone likes to point to Toffoli as a lazy bum because he dared to talk about crappy practices (and didn't run them himself, I guess), because he's not ripped, is not a great skater, and looks like he's stoned all the time. But if he found Jesus and has turned it around, is shipping him off still the right play? Yeah, that means we can get assets, but how many years before we have effective snipers on the big team (Kaliyev and Fagemo I guess)?

I'm just asking - I don't feel strongly either way.

I say keep Toffoli. We will need at least one vet on each line after the rebuild.

While I haven't heard it, I tend to believe he likes playing here. I am not certain but I think his wife and her family are local. She at least went to USC and works for the Dodgers. He may re-sign for less to stay and that matters in a cap world.

Unfortunately moving Toffoli is probably the right move even if he gets his mojo back. We can be a black hole team with or without him.

I know it will never happen but they should explore the market for Doughty. He's still a difference maker and clearly wants to win. There's no point in holding onto him when the team might not be a playoff team for 3-4 years at minimum.

Quick, Kovy, and Carter have to go.

There are replacements for all three - move on.

Leave Brown, Doughty, Kopitar, Martinez as the main vets. Re-sign Clifford, let Lewis walk or sign him for a one year. Let the kids take the rest of the rest of the spots.

what about Toffoli?

Would anyone do Puljujarvi + Gagner (for cap reasons) + cond 2nd (based on Toffoli's goals/gp if does not reach a threshold becomes a 3rd) for him? I imagine Edmonton says no.

I think the hardcore fans sometimes forget that ultimately this is a business and it's about selling tickets. You aren't going to sell many tickets if you are 1) a cellar dweller team, 2) not only do you lose every game, you have no 'superstars' to come and watch.

I am on the fence with Toffoli. It could be another situation like Brown. Coaching change, new linemates and he starts to produce. I want to see how he is doing by christmas.

I would keep Toffoli.

They are talking on NHL radio about letting Campbell start over Quick after these two horrible games.

I think until Quick can get his head together you start Campbell. If you put Quick out there and he gets shelled again what does that do for his confidence?

Really it is all moot as both goalies should start 1 of the back to back

What would you want for Toffoli? I don't think he gets you a first.

This would be a former high end first as well as a 2nd. gagner comes off the book this year.

However Puljujarvi and our coach didn't really mesh previously.

The only value Carter has now is giving the Kings the ability to hit the floor, which they are going to struggle with for a couple years. UFA's over the next couple years, no big RFA's coming up. Carter's cap hit is good for hitting the floor. That's what this team is now.

If Toffoli keeps it up, do we keep him? Trade him. If he has any value, trade him. He was a complimentary piece to the old core, and it's no longer about the old core. Toffoli isn't a guy to build around. His last day as a King should be no later than June 30th.

Quick, Kovy, and Carter have to go.

It's not about replacements. Take those 3 off the team, replace them with ELC players, and how are they hitting the floor next year? How much is Clifford going to get? $4m? $5m?

If we get an offer for a first round pick, I would trade him in a heartbeat.
