I would like a top five pick regardless.

That said, the Kings will get whoever they are meant to get.

The way things keep sliding around, the next 8-9 guys after Lafreniere could change slots. They don’t even really have a great grasp on who #2 is.

The whole top 10 looks pretty appealing to the point where I wouldn’t be angry with any of these names and even Sanderson is starting to sneak into some of the conversations. You also have Askarov who probably will be in the top 10 picks if a team needs a future franchise goalie.

It’s a good year to be where we are.

As I said last year around this time, I'd rather the Kings play well and drop in the draft - even miss out on one of the top players - than be really bad and get a top pick. I.e. An improving team drafting, say, 10th overall > a terrible team drafting in the top 3.

The only time I'd ever hope they lose a game if it's the last game of the season, and a win would move them up a spot or two from the bottom.

Absolutely. The developmental benefit for Vilardi, Anderson, Petersen, Roy and evening the likes of Kempe, Lizotte etc is more than worth dropping a spot or three in the draft. There’s no guarantees we draft top 3 whatever happens so they should play and win as many as they can. They current run will not only help the kids but it’s clearly reinvigorating the vets and that help in spades.

There is now a situation developing where there will be fierce competition for roster spots next year. There are a bunch of spots that will be properly earned and we will have players capable of playing in the NHL in Ontario. A superb situation is developing and for me it’s Vilardi’s emergence that seems to have really gotten everyone excited. It’s very much been a cumulative effect but GV is the most significant one for sure, his debut was a key moment.
