An illustration of what a small sample size does.

Petersen's save % before the game was .913. Now it's .926.

Save % are not the best indicator for goaltenders

He's the best goaltender in the league even at .913

If Petersen was on the east coast, the media would be all over him by now. Remember how they were drooling over Hart when he came up, or even now the guy from the Rangers. Lots of love for him tonight from the nbc crew which was a nice change.

BTW, we've won the last 3 on NBC....:thumbu:

Well there surely cannot be any doubters over whether Petersen is an NHL goalie or not. He is certainly showing that there is at least the potential for him to become a starter. Simply outstanding.

I do not think the departing players are individually the reason for our form but I do think their departure was needed. We desperately need roster turnover for all sorts of reasons. It removed a whole bunch of bad habits that were carryovers from the old system, those players were so used to. It obviously allowed an injection of youth and enthusiasm from the minor leagues which has energised the remaining vets. The younger players will also play the new system to the letter which will improve the structure the veteran players are playing within etc.

This is why I wouldn’t re-sign any of the departing players once they become free agents. It just needs a fresh look so we need to bring players in that are new to the Kings, if we have roster spots to fill. I love Clifford as much as anybody but I would not bring him back as it would give the wrong message. The team needs to be handed over to the ‘kids’ and they need to be driving the culture change. We need players that will fit in with our youth movement not someone that would come in and be ‘business as usual’. I use Clifford as the example, as people talk about him returning the most, but it could just as easily be Toffoli (or Forbort:naughty:) I’m talking about.

Love the effort and the way they are playing. Good to beat up on Vegas again in their own barn.

Now, can we please lose a few.
Next game is against TOR. They’d better start Soupy. We can bring up some of our ECHL players and scratch Kopi, Iafallo, GV and a few others. Gotta get JC to six wins.

Mostly agree.

But Clifford all day every day for me

I knew Vilardi didn't play much last night, but 7:49 TOI? Not sure what that's about. TM just trying to shelter him on a back-to-back?

Likely protecting him and allowing him to get into NHL game shape. He's gonna be a bigger factor next year, no doubt after a full training camp and such.
He was grimacing after a play when he tried to work his way around a VGK and reached out awkwardly with his stick... Hopefully it was more to do with not making the play than feeling some pain..

Glad that Puxatawney Anze saw his shadow two weeks ago and came out scoring last night.

Not sure how I feel about the 1-3-1 system the Kings are playing. It looks effective when they have won lately. But they’ve reversed their early season trend and have been getting down around 20 SOG a game pretty often.

Ah yeah good ol Puxatawney "12 points in last 10 games" Anze just never doing enough as always amirite

The 1-3-1 I tend to agree, it's strange. But other teams are pissed about it so that's something. You can see how frustrated they get. I mean, they full on put their goalie back in last night, after the Pens chirping the other night. I hate to be on the other side of it, that's for sure. It's very weird to see the different incarnations of this team all year, they're schizo.

It can certainly be deceiving (see; Brodeur and Quick) but it is still the best indicator.

The example just wasnt great, with barely any games played you can go from .913 to 9.26 after one game but that will stop eventually.

i've never really understood the 1-3-1 gripe, it's not like we're not forechecking at all like the bolts did

it's like getting mad at boeheim's zone D, there are holes and if you can't exploit them, that's your fault. no one marches soldiers into a valley on the low ground when the high ground is fortified, you find another way. if that's all you planned for, you planned to get slaughtered

should we be wooried about the tank? ...i know stupid...but nothing to look forward to lately.
i know still in 2nd last, but we are in striking distance for Ott, Ana, SJ ...we could go from 2nd to 5th..then lose the draft agin and fall to 8th.

nothing worth worrying about....the way I see it, if these guys start learning how to win, then that bodes well for next year. I can't say I would trade a competitive season (next year) for a high draft pick at this point.
