We beat the mighty Pens. Lets venture over to the Pens board to see the meltdown. I'm assuming some of these words will be mentioned, "WE F****N LOST TO THE PATHETIC KINGS!!!" 
There are some pieces that are going to be around for awhile. Roy as well is a guy who isn't sexy but is becoming a pretty nice player.

I love Cal's outlook. Interview had him saying some of the usual cliches about earning playing time etc., but followed up with it's a great time of year to be playing to prove yourself despite where we are in the standings. No one is here to babysit me. I see it as a great opportunity.

Petersen has been fantastic his last two games. I hope he doesn't cost us a spot in the tank standings. We're only 2 points behind Ottawa now, and 4 behind SJ.

I don’t care about “the tank” as long as the team is working hard and is improving. The lottery luck or lack there of is going to do what it does, there’s no controlling it. I’d rather see the kids progress and get the vets motivated again. Happy most of the stale roster is gone and a new era can begin.

Same reason they play Petersen if he's playing well. The coaching staff is trying to win. Management has their eyes on the future. The players, maybe they show up once a week as a collective group, but it has to be tough to really get into it for them. While TMc has some more wiggle room in terms of short term job security because Blake knows he's given him nothing to work with, he's got the easiest job of the three groups; win the game today.
It would be better if Kopitar wasn't thrown out there so much, but if Amadio is going to do something to cause the coach to play him for about 5 minutes of ES time, Kopitar is going to be the guy that picks up the extra minutes in a game that the Kings are actually competitive in.
