Team plays so much better without 77. No way should he be here 2 more years. Should not be on the team now or in October. What's his buyout like?
What happens if he's just waived? (and no one would claim him of course)

if they waive Carter, I there are a couple of scenarios.

1. He gets claimed by another team. Possible but not a sure thing given his contract

2. He passes through and is assigned to the AHL and reports to the minor league team. Kings get a little salary relief on his cap hit, but not much. He can always be recalled.

3. If He doesn’t report to Ontario then the Kings could terminate his contract and be done paying, but would lose the cap hit

4. He retires, in which case the Kings get hit with a recapture penalty for the next couple of seasons.

Thanks. Let him play the rest of the season if he gets healthy...but I would hope everyone here knows there is NO WAY he can play 2 more years; center or wing or any line...so one of these will happen.

Eveyone gets trashed on the team from vet to rookie, he's no different. Aside from Peterson, he's the other goalie so it makes sense to always compare them.
It's not comparison when you make silly comments like "If so and so was there, it would have been this." Can't wait for Petersen to get dumped on and have these same guys stay silent or blame the defense.

You're taking it too personally. Kings are at the stage where everyone on the roster can get criticized except maybe the new guys like Vilardi, Lizotte, and Frk who don't have a season under their belt. I don't know if Petersen can be our savior, but I do know that Quick is slowing down. His reactions are slower and he looks more unsure at times than ever before, and that's not always the D's fault- I know the D sucks, but there has been times like "he should have gotten that or the old Quick would have saved that" I truly hate seeing it, but it is what it is. He's always been a phenomenal goalie but he is also getting older and it shows.

You're missing my point entirely. I'm not critical of criticizing Quick. I'm critical of taking shots at him when he's not even playing. "Petersen had a good game, but Quick would have gotten the shutout." See how silly that sounds?

I'll take it a step further... Cal Petersen is not the future, that's actually reserved for either Luka Parik or Jacob Ingham..

Who knows who it will ultimately be. Could be Cal. Could be one of those guys. Could wait another 30 years.
Quick and Cal will have much improved numbers once they start to share an equal load, especially next season. With that said, he'll be 26 to start next season and we'll have a much better idea of just how good Ingham is when he suits up for the Reign next year. Who knows maybe all 3 guys breakout next season and Cal becomes a hot commodity with his sub $1 mill per contract:sarcasm:

I'd like to see Quick ridden a bit less like an old mule that's for sure and I think it'd do him good to have competition.

Is that correct though . It doesn't look like it is factoring in the cap recapture

I still think it's possible LA can find a suitor for Carter next year at 50% retention, and it's equally possible Carter gets LTIRetired. I had it in my head for so long that guys like Vilardi and Turcotte needed mentoring, but these kids are really good players. What they need are good players to play with. Next year is going to be a lost year, but I think we're done tanking. We don't have anyone else to trade away that's worth a damn. Kopitar, Doughty, and Brown will be on the team until they retire, but I wonder what will happen to Carter and Lewis this summer.

There is a daft tendency where complimenting a player has to be balanced by also ragging on a player in the same position. It’s not just the goaltenders that get this treatment.

Walker was getting used to beat DD up during his good spell earlier in the season. Now, Vilardi will be used to beat both Kopi and Carter. Each to their own I guess but my preference is to just enjoy one or more of the ‘kids’ playing well.

Just to get this out of the way, Jeff Carter is likely to retire a King unless we swap cap dumps with another team.. Also, who exactly replaces his 17 goals at the moment, likely to be 20 by seasons end???
What, you guys really think a Kaliyev, JAD, Grundstrom or Fagemo are replacing him in the next 2 years?
Odds are he either becomes Vilardi's LW or he centers the 3rd line.. Hell, he might even become Kopi's new winger.. You mention Turcotte and Vilardi need good players to pair with, well for the Kings at this moment thats as good as it gets..

Unless they replace Carters -21 on the roster next years, the only thing the kids will learn is how it feels to get benched because of unequal treatment.

Or worse, they get thrown out there without any veteran presence and their development absolutely halts..
This team hasnt been playing better as of late because one Jeff Carter is out of the lineup, they're playing better because they a few new guys that have brought energy, talent and fun to a team that lacked all those. Aside from landing Lafreniere, this team is 2 seasons away from fielding an exciting team, and 3 from adding meaningful UFAs when Carts and Brownie are gone..
