Damn kopis shot hurt him the first time

I like it when they get Anze off the half wall on the PP and put him high slot....this is the second or third time they've done that. He has more options for passes
(and lets face it, he's one of the few on this team that can make great passes) and gets most of his shots through and they are bombs. A few will end up goals,
via rebounds or deflections. I say leave him there every PP. The PP actually looks dangerous with him there....and when he's on the half wall, it looks putrid.

Brown may still be weak, but I think his days of top 6 are done.

You can just tell Doughty has mentally clocked out this season

Yet the coaches keep throwing him out there for the 2nd most total and ES minutes for d-men in the league. Would be nice if he played less.

Although, he is averaging the 7th fewest total and ES minutes of his career. The lowest since the last of the golden days. So he is playing a little less than previous years, and I guess there's only so many minutes he's not going to play, as the only possible #1 option on the team in every scenario. If not him, who? And, of course, $12m in cash. They're not getting wins out of him, so he at least better be out there while bringing home that sort of money?

Heh. Shut up Jim. A loss is a loss.

I didn't watch a second of the game because of NFL, but almost curious to pull it up from the DVR and see what Baghdad Jim had to say.

I respect Jim for his knowledge of the game but his homerism is an embarrassment to the Kings broadcast. Atleast with the team being shutout he didn't have a chance to yell "Yes" when they scored.

I hate to draw any positive conclusions out of this game, and this is going to sound really dumb, but I think it might actually be true: When our players buy into the system, it appears to work well. We’re just so bad that nothing comes to fruition.

Trading away Toffoli is going to be hilarious. We’re gonna have to bump Kyle Clifford up to the top six again.

Maybe he can be the extra attacker again. That was the moment I knew that Sutter had completely lost his mind and had to go.

Sutter was rewarding Cliffy for all of his hard work...

...on Sutter’s farm over summer break.

They lose a lot with Toffoli so I imagine it will be the same amount of hilarious as it already is. Did you watch tonights game and think if Toffoli wasnt on the team the outcome would have been different?
Also thinking clifford stays where he is and Brown gets put back onto his usual line.

Jim fox has become a full time Alec Martinez salesman. Seems fairly obvious its now become all about showcasing the available talent. Martinez paired with Doughty to look great and like a top pair D, Toffoli a first liner, Campbell getting more starts...

I don’t think the outcome would have changed at all, but let’s also not pretend like Toffoli is a terrible hockey player. He has 10% of LA’s goals this season.

Since 12/1:
Dustin Brown - 2 goals, 2 assists, -6
Tyler Toffoli - 6 goals, 9 assists, +5

Other than the occasional game, this team is back to struggling on offense. Since the good road trip before Xmas, they’ve gone 3-6 and have scored 2 or fewer goals in all the L’s.

Granted they’ve played some stingy teams and haven’t gotten blown out, so it’s not a major regression. And with the return of Lewis, Forbort, Brown and Martinez, it’s not surprising that the offense disappears. They’re still piling on the shots straight into the goalies chest, but there is little pressure at the front of the net. And when they do pressure down low, it’s at the end of the game and there is zero finish on the small number of scoring opportunities that develop, even plays where the net is wide open.

All the offense is coming from funnneling the puck down the boards, back to up top and taking shots from far away from the net. Shots from the slot are rarer than Bigfoot sitings. Somehow, Kopitar’s one time shot has gone from deadly to docile in the span of two weeks. Every warmup and practice should be one timers for the whole team, led by Frk, whenever they recall him.

Dustin Brown since Dec 1: 2 goals, 2 assists. -6. Wow.
If the Kings get any offers for Brown, should just trade him. Bring up Frk and Grundstrom. Will just stay in the bottom 5 the rest of the year.
1: on or before Feb 24 trade deadline; trade Toffoli, Martinez, Lewis, Carter, Clifford and possibly Brown and either Quick or Campbell. Then callup Frk, Grundstrom and Clague. Maybe get an NHL forward from one of the deals? Like a 22-24 yr old with potential. In other words, better than Luff or Wagner, who are not NHL players.
2: Then in March, sign 1 or 2 of the best college free agents out there, get Fagemo and Moverare back here at the end of their season, get any and all of Dudas, Thomas, Phillips back from juniors.
3: Sign Cole Hults from Penn State, sign Turcotte if he wants to sign, sign Arty and get him to Ontario too. Sign G Jacob Ingham, who has been lights out at Kitchener. 19-4 record and .929 save percentage. 6'4" 200. Did you see his agility tests at rookie camp? impressive...especially for being 6'4"
4. June: Then kill it at the draft, June 26.

I didnt mean it like that, as I actually like Toffoli most of the time. I would be all for trading Brown before him but I dont think its going to go down that way. If its a 2nd rounder they get for Toffoli that will be a disappointing move.

Iafallo and Toffoli each had prime scoring chances at the end of last nights game, respectively shooting the puck into the goalies mitt and not finding a loose puck.

It shows that they are better at 2nd line forwards and exposes the holes in the roster.

Trading Toffoli may be a mistake given his age and if he would resign for the same salary on a one or two year deal.

Looking at next season, if the top six forwards were the following by the end of the year, I think the rebuild would show promise.

Kaliyev Kopitar Toffoli
Iafallo Vilardi Fagemo

Bottom six could include

Kempe Lizotte Brown
Clifford Amadio Wagner

Give up the derriere for Lafreniere
I can't honestly think of anything in Uralic/Finnic or Indo-European/Germanic languages. It'll have to be the derriere. Lafreniere is worth the effort.

EdT: oops I forgot where I was. I'm a bandwagon Canes fan. Kinda liking LA the city though. Still.
