Some observations from the Dome last night
1) Lizotte impressed me
2) MacDermid did not. I get his role and what he was trying to do but he needs to pick his spot better. I like that he went after MT but taking a penalty there was stupid and could have got Calgary back in a 1-0 game. Than he goes after Lucic and gets a quite building back into it.
3) Been going to Flames vs Kings at the dome for decades and this was easily the worst experience fan wise. People were straight up dicks and I thought I was going to get in a fight last night. Not sure if it is because of the Drew vs Mathew thing or what
4) the drew vs mathew rivalry is awesome
5) drew's post game interview was one of the best things ever. Made the drive home sweet
6) Roy still looked bad to me. yes he blocked alot of shot but I would rather have a player who can steal the puck for a break out, when you block it leads to a 50/50 battle and often the goalie has committed to the shot
7) Kovalchuk looked really good. Even back checking from time to time.
8) Clifford also impressed me
9) MT took a lot of late runs at drew. Drew acknowledged this and seems ok with it
we want mac to be tough, he needs to be tough at all times

his role is diminished to nearly nothing if he picks and chooses when to do it in his limited minutes, and there's no better way to prove it than by throwing a big check against the toughest guy on the other team and fighting him. we don't want tkachuks and mangiapanes running around being rats and hiding behind the officials, macdermid opened the door and invited anyone to take him out of it and no one did

that's what a roleplaying 6/7D like him does and he did it well

in a 3-0 game on the road he needs to pick a better spot.

New challenge rule allows coaches to challenge for any potential whistle in the offensive zone (the first high stick). But if the coach is wrong, it's a penalty.
What I was wondering when I first saw this is whether in the rule book this constitutes two separate events as Fox immediately told us. If it’s all one event, then the initial touch of the puck is clearly above the crossbar. A sort of continuation thing.

Maybe you should reconsider your expectations
Don't need to, I know a spade when I see one.

I am a fan of Amadio and really want him to succeed, but he blew a coverage that led to a goal.

I am pulling for Campbell, but he let in a softie.

I am very excited about Bjornfot and would like to see him mature here all year, but he has played a couple of games like headlights were bearing down on him. Opening night/first game jitters and a very physical chippy follow up game are a baptism by fire, but he didn't play up to the level of those games. He backed in way too deep and gave up a ton of space so he could keep the game in front of him. I want to see how he plays at home under more manageable situations, but after two games he hasn't shown much reason to keep him up. You can say its just two games, but they only have nine to use as evidence, so its more urgent than with a kid you could send down to Ontario.

Point is, Roy didn't play well in Edmonton, but did play well in Calgary. Its just what happened.

First touch was arguably below the shoulder, second touch was the shot definitely under the crossbar. I think it should have counted, and most likely wouldn't have been reversed, giving Calgary a PP to potentially win the game.

Roy didn't play well in either game and was the Kings worst D-man in both games

Sorry, have to agree with bland here.

Roy had a really rough opening game in Edmonton, but was markedly better against Calgary. Easily outplayed Bjornfot and MacDermid, and a good case could be made he played better than Martinez and Hutton.

I think Doughty and Walker were the best defensemen overall yesterday, but Roy was arguably the third best.

No was was Roy the 3rd best. Hutton was MUCH better than Roy, Martinez, MacD and BjornBorg all also played better.
IDK why Bjorn played so little but he was still better than Roy

TM admitted he didn't see the replay of the third goal.
This concerns me. If he thought it was too close to challenge fine, but if he didn't even see it what the hell is he there for? To chew gum?

On another note, I thought Gaudreau/Monhan were basically invisible last night, so good on the Kings there. Absolutely dominant first period, but couldn't keep their foot on the gas, which is not unexpected. I also don't think Carter looks awful, honestly there were a few times where he passed when I thought he should have shot. Not saying he's going to be a world beater but there's still plenty of time for him to get his game back to a respectable level if he just starts shooting the puck.

Disagree completely.

Everyone needs to stop getting caught up in worrying about getting two points in Game 2 when this season isn't about making the playoffs or winning the Cup.

The Kings do not have an identity and are trying to rebuild a culture. We should actually applaud MacD for going over to Tkachuk after his second run at Doughty: penalty or not. We should also applaud him for taking the run at Lucic: if you skate with your head down through center ice against the Kings, you are going to get blasted. Doesn't matter what the score is. He didn't go out and start a fight off a face-off so this whole "giving the home team momentum" argument is way off base: this was a heat of the moment play.

The Kings need to be tough to play against again. Set the identity and tone. Again, this is why MacDermid being on the team as the extra D this year is great. Kings are up 3-0 on the road...you're still going to get blasted if you skate like a dope through center ice.

This is forest through the trees stuff. Kings have been Charmin soft which is a big reason for their fall from grace. I'm not saying they have to fight all of the time, but the compete level has not been there. Time to change that. If anyone on the Kings decides to blast someone and it wakes up the opposing team's fans, then so be it. Establishing an identity and being tough to play against is much more important to the rebuild and the future than two points in October.

Crap I misread Rosen's post games notes. Doughty said that, he said he thought it was a high stick but didn't see the replay. My bad.

MacDermid took a lot of strides to go after Lucic. Was borderline charging.
