It’s sad that because Lazerus is one confident (read: arrogant) author with pretty ****ty takes and very vocal, Powers doesn’t have the guts to be against him. In their podcast Powers has clearly different opinions but still kind of agrees with Laz’s takes and in their stories it seems like Powers doesn’t want to argue with Lazerus.

The only way they’ll ever talk about multiple topics on a pod is to let Laz be right on the first one.

Laz just says thing he wants to happen, not things that remotely make sense. He just roots for chaos as a writer. Its annoying. He says the stupidest shit and doesn't have a clue about the sport.

Jesse Rodgers was the worst I can recall. And I was worried when Powers took over for him it being another guy with zero hockey background even of a fandom level. But Powers is great because he puts in the legwork and talks to people who do know how to judge players.

But I avoided that article because neither are guys I would expect to have great insight in FA pickup talks.

But Zawaski just announced he's writing a Blackhawks book for some series of sports books. That'll br interesting in comparison to the book Laz wrote.

Just read an article on Facebook that indicated JT Miller is expected to be on the trading block.

He is a guy that I would be okay with

Signed through 2022-2023 at 5.25 per plays all 3 forward positions

Wonder what he would cost? I would rather just sign an fa but miller is a useful player

Living in fantasy land with this idea but lets say Hawks want to make big splash and feel that the young D in system will be future and that we can sacrifice some future going forward

If Cap goes up to 81M

- Offer Sheet Marner at 11.5M x 7
- Sign UFA RW Tom Kuhnhackl to 1 yr deal (1M AAV)
- Re-sign RFA's - D Gustav Forsling (1.25M x 2) , C David Kampf (1.25M x 2) and W Brandon Perlini (1.1M x 2)
- Promote Jokiharju , Highmore and Fortin to NHL

Caggiula-Toews-Kane
Debrincat-Strome-Marner
Saad-Anisimov-Kahun
Perlini-Kampf-Kuhnackl
Highmore , Fortin

Keith-Jokiharju
Gustafsson-Murphy
Forsling-Seabrook
Dahlstrom

Crawford
Delia

Cap room = $1.562M

Acquiring Marner is surrendering big part of future (4 1st round picks) but establishing a face of franchise for Hawks as Toews/Kane in future years transition to support roles

With Crawford a FA in summer of 2020 the cap room is there to extend both Strome/Debrincat longterm and we can look to move someone like Anisimov or Saad next summer to free up more cap room if required. Both Anisimov and Saad are off books in summer of 2021 and would clear 10M+ in cap room

I suspect Seabrook would be bought out at some point as it appears unavoidable at this point

In coming years our young D will join roster as guys like Gus , Forsling , Murphy and Keith gradually move out from organization as contracts run up (In Forsling's case if he can get his game together he could become longterm piece)

Thoughts?

This offseason will be first in longtime Hawks have $$$ to spend and look to make splash

I assume they will kick tires on Panarin but suspect he is already Florida bound honestly. If Leafs lowball Marner and leave him open to offer sheet the Hawks should be aggressive and pounce

I really can't justify losing four 1st round picks for one player .. no matter whom that player might be.
That mortgages the future for a shot at the present ability for this core to make one more run.
It's a nice fantasy though!

I assume Hawks would be back in playoffs with that roster next year

What are chances you land a Mitch Marner with those 4 picks?

If you have chance to land a franchise talent like Marner (Who turns 22 in a few days) you do it. The guy had 94 pts this past season and is in my opinion the best all around player on Leafs

+ I would love to see HF crash and reaction to Hawks making move like this

I don't expect it but we got few months of speculation , etc to waste so mine as well talk all possibilities as remote and unlikely they may be

Marner IS part of the future, though, not just the present. I get what you're saying, but you have him for his prime years. He's a franchise caliber player....what are the odds you're getting another one of those with any of those other 1st round picks, especially as the team is becoming a playoff team and picking lower and lower again.

Again, I don't disagree giving up 4 1sts is a lot, but we're talking a young, franchise player here who is good for the now and future.

Very worried the Hawks go after Gardiner

Why would we go after Gardiner?

We already have our own version of him in Gus though Gus appears to be more talented offensively and a bit weaker defensively

Hawks don't need another questionable defender especially one who as UFA will get overpaid

And Gardiner is disaster in playoffs so if Hawks are looking to rebuild into contender he is last thing we need

I brought up offer sheeting Marner before and still like the idea. If you get Marner and Byram this year, you should make the playoffs next year and every year for the forseaeable future. Looking at the Hawks most recent 1st round picks between 20-30 would you trade Joker, Beudin, Schmaltz, and Hartman for Marner? I sure as hell would. Your core going forward is Strome, Debrincat, Marner and hopefully Joker, Byram, Bovqist....you can win with that.

Because the Hawks have money and a bad defense and it makes it look like Bowman is trying to address the problem. I didn't say I wanted them to get him, in fact I said the opposite.

Would they give up this years pick in that deal? No way I give up the 3rd pick.

Marner or Tkachuk. Players like that cost a lot more than 4 mid to late 1st round picks. That’s the big move the Hawks need to speed things up, not a 28 year old UFA.
