Just a reminder...the Rangers are still closer to worst overall than making the playoffs.

And the second half schedule is still going to be filled with more challenges than the first.

That lineup of games didn't change just because we ran into two other lottery teams this week.

Exactly. These last two games were almost predictable victories. No one should be surprised.

Boy this thread died recently. Will we ever see a top 3, 4 or even 5 pick in our lifetime again?

If the Rangers lose tonight in regulation, there should be some teams either creating separation or catching up to the Rangers.

Ottawa vs Detroit
- someone needs to win right?
- preferable to OT

Vancouver-Colorado
-preferable to OT

Chicago vs Minnesota
-OT but Chicago win

Arizona vs SJ
-Arizona win

Nashville vs Dallas
-Go Dallas

STL vs Columbus
-OT but STL win
-OT so Columbus doesn’t sell Panarin and help flood market

Florida vs Vegas
-go Florida

NYI vs LA
-go LA

ANA vs WPG
-go Anaheim

TO vs PIT
OT and hope they kill each other

This should be a good night for tank.

Kings vs NJ
FLA vs STL
Hawks vs Oilers

3 games that will automatically help us

There are 5 teams within 1 or 2 pts behind us. All of whom would pass us with wins.

Fingers crossed for shitloads of OT games.

2/17 gut feeling to document: The lottery winner isn't coming from #1-2-3.

Detroit wins Hughes at 1 ov.
Followed by Colorado at 2 ov (via OTT).

Rangers 8 ov - Alex Turcotte

Yeah, it's a lottery, meaning it will be by definition unpredictable.

My only fear is Colorado getting both first and second.

So I find myself rooting for Ottawa a lot nowadays. Of all things.

I've got nothing against Colorado so that'd be fine with me. Let them go out west and preferably out of division.

Way back when, in another thread, I predicted we'd be 8-12 at the TDL, so I'm feeling pretty good about that. I then said we'd finish 6-12. I still think that will be the case, because there are just too many teams below us that f***ing suck, and I don't know if they can all pass even a squad without Zucc, Hayes, Namestnikov, and McQuaid. Unless we go crazy and also move Kreider and Shattenkirk or something.

Canucks grab a point on the road, and Hawks grab the win in Anaheim...

Slots 7 through 12 couldn't be tighter.

7. Vancouver - 63 points, 64 GP
8. Chicago - 63 points, 64 GP
9. NY Rangers - 64 points, 63 GP
10. Arizona - 65 points, 63 GP
11. Buffalo - 66 points, 63 GP
12. Florida - 65 points, 62 GP

***QUESTION:
If we were guaranteed Pick #7 OV, would you take it right now? or let it ride? Pick #6? #5?

I'd take it. As bad as we are, we are still better than Ottawa, Detroit, Edmonton, LA and Jersey. Anaheim would be the only team I could see getting hot. The likelihood of us going above 7 is much greater than dropping below 7.

Also, if we are fortunate enough to get a 3rd first round pick, its much different for a team to move from pick 7 to pick 3 or 4 than it is to move from pick 10 to pick 3 or 4. 7 ov + 31 ov may be enough to move to #3/4. 10 ov + 31 ov wouldn't be enough to crack the top 5.

Frankly, due to the lottery, I'm not terribly stressed about the team's final place in the standings. Each year, we've seen teams outside the top 3 move up, and in some cases dramatically so – and the NHL has only worsened the odds for true "tanking" in recent years. Finish in the lottery, preferably in the top 9, develop the kids, hope to get lucky, draft well. That's it. No need to freak out over the differnce between finishing 6th or 7th.

I'm good with the current direction. If the Rangers were in Ottawa/Anaheim/NJD-like freefall, the prognosis for emerging from the current process anytime soon would look a lot worse than it does now...

Let it ride. Would love to be in a position to have Byram/Dach/Cozens

6th is realistic I don’t think we get into the top 5 teams are just too terrible below us. But Edm Chicago and the Nucks have a legit shot to pass us

6th pre-lottery, 7th post-lottery. I am sure Gorton will try to move up but how realistic is it to find a team willing to move down?
