He did not play well.. no where near well. He did not look like 1st line center either.

I just watched all three of the Swedish goals again and the goalie can't be blamed for any of them. The third goal you would hope that he would be able to hold on to the puck after the first shot so that one he could have done better but the big picture is that it was the D that blew it on that goal with brutal scrambling coverage. The D was absolutely putrid on goals 1 and 2; not the goalie's fault at all. Then there were the numerous saves he did make, stopping high quality chances. There are a number of reasons why Russia didn't get the job done last night but goaltending is not on that list.

All of the Russian posters on this thread have gone out of their way to criticize the defense. That's not the point! There was nothing remarkable about Sukhachyov's performance that warrants this high praise. When posters like jjcale go out of their way to praise the goaltender, it is usually suggesting that if it were not for the goaltender, it would have been a one-sided game. It wasn't. Russia played even with Sweden throughout, despite the poor performance of the defense. That is a given on this team. What we needed was for Sukhachyov to make great saves when the D broke down. He didn't. We lost because he couldn't stop Swedish shooters in the shootout.
