Canada was the better team. We had the talent though and a shitload of heart to beat them. Monique L turned the physical game around with the big hit on the boards and then buried the tying goal. That was a close ass game too. Glad Rooney made up for letting in the 2nd she wanted that one back. Tough team to beat I don't know if we could have won in sudden death.

Those players on Canada are excellent what a great team I'm just happy the stars for the USA pulled it off and got one it was close looked like another heartbreak.

Great game, but I'm kinda puzzled on the picks for CAD shootout...first shooter has not scored all Olympics and the sudden death pick wasn't Poulin?

Poulin was stopped in her first attempt in the 5 spot. Agosta scored easily on her first attempt. Not a mystery as to why Agosta got the nod over Poulin.

I mean Caroline is awesome. Ryan is a huge bitch and gets benched for playoff games. Canada is deep and shes middle of the pack. That team is a squad. And holy shit their coach is good. We have the high end talent and the Gretzky's of the ladies game but they were the vastly better team tonight really gutty win.

All those goals were FIRE too none were soft that got past Canada goalie. Rooney made up for letting in an easy one on the 2nd in regulation.

I still can't believe that game. Easily the best game I've watched and felt so invested since...since the Bruins won the cup. Just incredible.

This team fought for equal pay. Equal rights. Not just for then, but for our youth teams. We deserve this. Yes, Canada you've won many more than us. But you had support day 1. You has no problem growing the game. We had to fight and claw.

This win is huge. And it feels DAMN good.

The equal pay was and is a very complex issue and there are two sides to the issue, mainly gender and performance and this also applies to soccer. Compensation is a touchy subject because you have to factor the incoming revenue and the men bring in far more income than the women.

I don't have a solution.

Kessel's shot was FIRE too. Shes my favorite on the team because I'm still mad what we did to Phil and I like her story perservering through the injuries and playing when she really shouldn't. But she was the best player on the team she had to kinda.
Her story is incredible. That goal was clutch.

I just watched the shootout and I’m beyond pumped for these girls.

USA! Woo!

U.S. beats Canada in shootout for women’s hockey gold. And they deserved it. | Toronto Star

These teams give us this game, this crucible, where they find out what they really have. Before the game American Amanda Kessel said of 2014, “We can’t go back and play that game again,” any more than they could replay any of the others. Of course not. They can never go back. They can only surge forward, accelerating to crescendos that make you forget that there’s anybody else at all.

It was a shame, the shootout. Because in a way it didn’t matter who had to cry their hearts out, or who would see this game in their dreams for the rest of their lives. This is what they play for, and they should have allowed to finish it at full bore. But it was finished, and that was what they had been waiting for, and will wait for again.

I'm not lamenting the fact the game ended in a shootout for a couple of reasons.

First of all, the shootout was great. Some of the moves were similar to or on par with those of Forsberg, Oshie, and Pat Kane.

Secondly, the Americans deserved the win. Pierre and Roenick were saying the American women were nervous and out of sync early in the game, but they were still leading 1-0 after one period. Canada scored two quick goals in the second period, but their offense sputtered after that, including the bulk of the third period and the 20 minute OT. The Americans dominated the game the last 40 minutes.

The officiating was questionable, but it seemed to even out. The Americans had a distinct advantage in number of power plays, but most of that was earned. And the refs missed a major for a head shot against Canada while the USA was trailing. I also didn't like the call against the Americans in the last 2 minutes of OT, but Canada was out of gas and their PP faltered.

I don't know what the overall level of refereeing is in the women's game, but even Pierre was commenting that there were a lot of missed calls - penalties, as well as icings and offside calls.

Overall a great game, and highly entertaining.

Just finished watching the game and doing so without having known the result prior to. I have a well documented hatred for deciding a team game via shootout in any circumstance (just can`t accept it) but what a terrific hockey game. I really wish other countries would catch up to make this tournament more of a challenge for these two teams though. Congrats team USA and congrats team Canada, great game
