I’m not sure to understand why everybody is mad at Bettman... Player X is on contract with team Y, his name and image is the proprety of league Z. A tournament in the world wants player X to take a break and play for 3 weeks overseas. League Z ask for the rights to show pictures and highlights on website, CIO says no, league Z keep player X home.

Right, thanks for explaining, i thought i read somewhere that it was a bettman thing

If the owners are involved, so is Bettman. The whole thing is about money, and even though I resist supporting ownership over players, they're right in this case.

The Olympics makes billions and NHL owners want their piece, since the games invariably fall into and interrupt the NHL season. It's beyond pathetic that a movement that was always about amateur sports is now about money first. I'm not just talking about NHL owners here. The Olympic committee is all about gilding their own lily. Most athletes would, and do, compete for comparatively nothing.

In the long term, this is probably good for the NHL and hockey in general. Teams will medal now that never used to have a chance and this will promote the sport worldwide, inevitably producing more quality players for pro leagues.
