Exactly, a possible great contextual pick.

I firmly believe he has the potential of a quality complementary top-6 player.

A team who has skilled centers in their system, will drool at the possibility of adding this guy.

In an earlier post, I said I wouldn't be that mad if he was chosen at 3, in that we've needed a big, physical top-6 guy with skills for a while now.

But damn we need game-breaking talent more than that type of player.

Damn I hope Carolina want to recreate the Necas-Zadina chemistry of the last U20, Svechnikov would be a dream come true here...

The thing about Carolina is that we have what it takes to entice them. If we really want Svech, we shouldn't expect for him to fall -- go get him in some kind of deal involving Hanifin and their 2nd. Get it done.

If Bergevin had any balls he would do Gallagher+3 for Hanifin+2. With his last year to impress, there is absolutely no chance he trades one of the only good forwards of an awful season.

Yeah, hoping something happens vs making it happen.

Would potentially solve our 1st pair LHD situation, and we'd get the best forward prospect we've had in the system for a looonnnngggg time.

Pacioretty/Galchenyuk would probably be needed, + our 1st.

Pacioretty + our 1st would be perfect IMO, as I believe Max time is up...

Arg, Gallagher... see, not sure how many seasons he has left til his body breaks, but his contract is gold, just scored 30 goals in a pitiful season and was one of the only 2 forwards to show up all season long (with Byron).

He's exactly the guy I want the coaches to tell kids "see this guy ? try to outwork him, all the time"

But yeah, his value is most definitely at its highest ever right now.

And, I'm all for getting the 2nd overall, and implicate the 3rd overall, but I really wish we keep all our other picks.

Cause damn, we of course need quality, but also quantity.

There's only one guy I haven't seen enough this year (apart from Espoo highlights) in my top 30 and it's Jesse Ylönen. Mestis streams were close to impossible to find. Went back and watched all his U18s but that was more than a year ago now.

The high end skill and skating has me thinking he could be a potential steal but the lack of viewings stop me from putting him higher.

I think rankings go wild after about 20, and to me Ylonen could be a later 1st as much as a mid 2nd.

And that's the reason why I love those 2 early 2nd picks, because of players like him who may slip.

Why would the Canes do that

Y'know there are two sides to each deal right? Like... CAR actually has to agree to that.
Because the gm already reported that they want a player that is very hard to play against and Gallagher fits that bill perfectly. They also mentioned how choosing at #2 will be a difficult choice so it wouldn't seem like a big difference to them.

It isnt happening, Hanifin has a lot of value, possibly more than Gallagher.

And that's why I don't want us to deal any of those early second rounders. Someone will slip. They're practically late first rounders, we're in a very favorable spot.

That's actually really nice of you to say because no, it's not appreciated by all posters. Every single year, the draft thread regulars are attacked by people whom are never seen in the draft threads all year. It's like clockwork.

I've been lurking these draft threads for the last couple months. It goes without saying that lurkers like me are also super appreciative for all the insights you guys have been providing :thumbu:

I've got a little game: Imagine we trade Pacioretty for the 10th pick, and then trade a few of our 2nds (and maybe a Byron or a Lindgren) to move up into the late teens (let's say 18th), giving us 3 first rounders in the top 20 (3, 10, 18)- who do you target with each of those picks to create a first round class to really take our prospect pool to the next level?

The reason I think it's an interesting question, is it adds a little bit of strategy to selecting. Do you go BPA at all 3 picks, or do you target specific players to fulfill specific positional needs?

3- Kotkaniemi
10- Ty Smith
18- Kaut or Berggren

Watch them take Tkachuk. There are guys who I think NHL GMs like alot more than HF posters... Tkachuk (and Bouchard) seem to be outside of most everyones top 5 and almost most everyones top 10 even. But come draft day I think those 2 go top 5.

There's still no reason for them to do that trade. They give up the better pick and likely the more valuable player.

Brady Tkachuk is the solution guys. The kid is marketable. He’s a beast. He’s better than Zadina.

Brady’s can score, can pass, can deke, can skate, can hit, can fight, can taunt, can do everything. Seriously, the kid is our target boys and girls.
