1) I've been right there with you, and 2), I thought we might get back to talking about Kravtsov on the "Kravtsov" thread.
I remember some in the draft thread had Kravtsov going in the 20s... and then I bet everyone I'd buy them a beer if he did and got a bunch of likes after the fact.

He was 12th on McKenzie's final draft rankings so it was pretty ridiculous to call him going at 9, just 3 spots higher, a reach.

So, Kravtsov looks like he's going to be a pretty special player, amirite?

I know Kakko is rusty, but it definitely seems like we're adding two (at this very early stage) equal level studs to the roster for this season. Kravtsov is impressive.

The future is bright.

Now we need a center. It's very early still but I'm envious of Montreal with Poehling who they selected after we had taken Andersson and Chytil.

I know both Kravtsov and Kakko have played center but I doubt that's where they end up. I'm sure they'll be tried at some point. Chytil is looking more like a winger, too. Again, very early but that's what I see so far. Howden/Andersson both seem like 3rd C guys at most. So we have a bunch of "well, maybe?" guys but no clear skilled center who we're confident can take that #2 spot, and I have no idea where we're gonna get one if none of our crop can do it. Overpay a UFA, trade assets we haven't gotten a decent look at... get lucky and win a top pick again? No idea. That's my concern. I think we're solid everywhere else, especially if Shesterkin adapts quickly.

I'm with you...Chytil looks better on the wing and Andersson looks like a very good 3rd line center. In order for the Rangers to be the team Gorton is hoping them to become, they're missing another high end center to go with Zibby. They need to hit it big in next year's draft.

We were supposed to trade Kreider for the pick that would become that C but it didn't materialize. Maybe with next June's top 10 pick?

kravtsov and kakko together are bookend wingers who we can build around.

i would throw chytl in there too. not at the same level yet, but has the tools to be a big time scoring wing. at 6'2 210 hes small lol

those 3 are certainly the future. i can live with young wingers but would prefer a smart, creative 2C on this roster now. thats a trade waiting to happen. this team needs another swift pivot to pay top 6 minutes.

the guys we have here now all are capable but ceilings are low 2 high 3C's. the draft might help if we have a top 5 pick next yr, otherwise its roster guys now or a trade.

hello chris kreider

I kept saying that he was a player I could see the Rangers "going off the board for" in the weeks leading up to the draft.

even though he was "off the board", i don't remember a whole lot of negativity surrounding the pick like with Lias because he was the kind of reach we all wanted; high ceiling, boom or bust homerun swing type. The only negative was because the Islanders ended up with Wahlstrom

And Kravtsov looks far ahead of Wahlstrom right now.

we likely won't, with Kakko, Trouba, and Breadman. My guess is no better than 8th, and by that time, Byfield, Lundell, and Lafenire will be gone. In the 8-10 range, its mostly wingers and D in the 2020 draft with the best ceilings, IMO.

The time to get a potential top Center with the 8-10 pick was this year. Cozens and Zegras and Newhook i think are better than Rossi and Stranges (early 8-12 projections).

We absolutely needed to have moved Kreider/Buch/future pick for the +/- 8th OA this year.

Yeah, I can't see a bottom 3 finish unless they finish around 8-10 and win the top 3 lottery again.

Writing him off would be silly.

But I doubt that he's going to become a really well rounded offensive player. He's one dimensional and will likely always be one dimensional. It'll keep him in the league for a long while, but he's pretty limited as a player.

eh it's been 1 year after their draft and while Wahlstrom had his struggles it's entirely possible he bounces back with a huge season
