Ahhh, I remember being at the draft party and being the only guy cheering like it was yesterday.

But but Wahlstrom!!! Silence, plebs.

Good stuff.

There was lot of pissed off people in draft GDT.

I'm already looking forward to the select few on this board who are going to jump all over him and label him with a bunch of dumb names the first time he turns the puck over on one of those rushes when he makes he leap over the pond.

Crapali Sucktsov.

Cherepanov was much better. He was the best player at the WJC in his draft season. Kravtsov didn't even make it. He probably should've, but Cherepanov was probably the best Russian prospect since Ovechkin and Malkin.

U20 KHL scoring rates (more than 5 games played):

1) Cherepanov (0.87)
4) Kuznetsov (0.84)
5) Yakupov (0.82 - he scored 0.65 ppg in the NHL the same season after the lockout ended)
8) Buchnevich (0.63)
9) Tarasenko (0.57)
10) Panarin (0.53)

Cherepanov was better than a lot of guys who turned into really good NHL players

Cherepanov was a stud; a legit top 5 talent in that draft.

The drop was due to the uncertainty that existed with drafting Russian forwards at the time — with Cherepanov’s draft coming during, or close to, the peak of those concerns.

But all arrows pointed to him wanting to be a Ranger and play in the NHL in short order.

Beyond the tragedy of his death, I have no doubt he would’ve been a star forward.

I got into an argument with a Rangers fan right after the pick in the stadium. Wahlstrom this, Wahlstrom that. I have no problem with people like @GregSirico who has a good argument as to why he wanted Wahlstrom, but so many fans were just echoing whatever they read in a Larry Brooks article. So many fans were ready to burn down the building when that pick was made. It's crazy.

You can actually hear a guy cheering in the background at the draft, the moment Gordie Clark announces the pick. That's me hahaha.

Me three. I screamed KRAVTSOV as soon as Clarke said Chelyabinsk and I was getting blank stares back. Good times!

One guy literally said "What the f***! We should have gone for Wahlstrom. I never even heard of this Russian kid so how good can he actually be?"

Yeah, that right there was the moment where I burst out laughing

Yeah Chere was fantastic. I will never forget that day, following those reports about his collapse, then ultimately his death. It was so awful.

No it's been like that for a while. It's the same reason the preds burned a year with tolvanen last year
*Woah, I was not aware of that at all - I thought his 1st season was at 10 free NHL games. Why did Preds burn a year last season`on Tolvanen? Is the ruleset that complicated?

Yes I agree with you, so not a full year, but at least get some games, but not over 10 total.

Doesn't work that way. If Kravtsov signs his ELC in 2019, the contract is not slide-eligible because it's signed in the year he turns 20 (See Mittelstadt). Had he signed his ELC this year, it would slide.

If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to ‘slide’, or extend, by one year. For example, if a player signed an ELC for three seasons from 2015-16 to 2017-2018, and their contract slides, their contract is now effective from 2016-17 to 2018-19. An exception to this rule is that if the player is 19 on September 15 of the first year of their contract, and turns 20 between September 16 and December 31, their contract does not slide.

Players who sign at 18 years old are eligible to have their contracted extended for 2 seasons. This extension does not apply if the player turns 20 between September 16 and December 31 in his signing year. Signing bonuses do not slide, and are paid to the player regardless of a slide, this causes the annual average of the players contract to change, and therefore the cap hit decreases for this player.

It`s a confusing text for me with all the dates, but my english is not that great. But why did Preds use Tolvanen last year if they knew they would burn one year?

Tolvanen's contract did indeed slide because he turned 19 in the year he signed it. It's Mittelstadt's contract which did not slide due to it being signed in the calendar year where he turned 20.

Mittelstadt, born in 1998: Signed ELC in 2018 (no slide)
Tolvanen, born in 1999: Signed ELC in 2018 (slide)
Andersson, born in 1998: Signed ELC in 2017 (slide)

I hope you are here when we are closer to October, because NHL sometimes use small text - u need to hire guys like you or @Ola to figure things out. If I was the coach I would certainly used him in some games now. :)

Hey man. Feel free to ask. I know a lot of stuff from the CBA but even for me there are surprises at times. I'm still figuring out new things.
