More ice (and time) available for players to create opportunities. There is more finnesse involved. It’s practically frowned upon to dump and chase in comparison to the NHL. Kutsznesov explains this in an interview too.

You can see this is Buchnevich' style of play. He is used to circling back, waiting for his teammates to go for a line-change and then start over, instead of dumping the puck and going to the bench.

I think it's always a bit tougher to stickhandle around in the NHL because there's so much less room by design (generalizing, but team defensive systems, smaller rink surface than some other leagues) but to be able to move the puck around and get a shot off through sticks and traffic is a special talent

One of the reasons why some of us wanted him to stay in the K. He is getting a chance to learn high-level pack handling skills that he generally would not get a chance to learn if he came over because of the NA constraints that you mentioned. Once he come over he will need to learn when to use it (or when to simply dump it) but he’ll have it in his arsenal.

I don't want to start a separate thread to ask this question. But is the best top 3 prospects we've had in ages? At least since I've been watching from 00-01. Kravtsov, Chytil, and Andersson all have legit top line potential (I know Andersson is more likely a 2nd liner). I think Kravtsov and Chytil have high-end potential. I don't remember seeing these types of prospects on the Rangers. Maybe there's no Dahlin in our prospect pool, but it's still damn good.

I concur.

Then, add in whatever in the hell we wind up doing at the ‘19 draft and WOW ..

Add in Shesterkin. But, I would think the early 90s Rangers would give these guys a run. Between 91-93 the team had Amonte, Weight, Zubov and Kovalev came in 93-94. That was a very special group. Prior to that, around 88-89 there was Leetch, Richter, Granato. But yeah, this crop is pretty strong and we don't even know what we have in K Miller and N Lundqvist.

So pretty much a lock the 3 Russians kids coming to camp next year ? Will be exciting but I hope they are good w a little AHL time if needed

As silly as it sounds it may be true that Stepan was and still is the best draft pick we have had in recent memory. Until some of these guys make their way in the nhl they are still just prospects. This statement says a lot as Stepan was a very good player for us he isnt elite. Chytl has the best chance right now, Kravtsov hasn't even played in a north american rink yet so it's too early to tell, he looks great but all those d hes dangling around wouldnt make the 6th spot on most teams in the nhl and a lot of us were saying the same thing about Grachev a few years back. Im excited to see what they all can do in two or three years, hopefully they exceed our expectations.

Comparing Kravtsov with Grachev is ridiculous because Grachev never played in the KHL until he was 23. He played at junior level until his D+1 season and then went to the AHL.

Can someone translate?

Nothing earth shattering.

Said they had a team meeting where they agreed to try harder. Mentioned that they do get their chances on offense but had a hard time converting. A captain obvious phrase that they need to allow less goals and score more. Finally, Kravtsov said that this win should let them go home in higher spirits for the next series of home games.

Pretty standard stuff. I mean goal differential was bad but it is still two wins and two losses on the road trip, which is not terrible.

I understand what you are trying to say but the circumstances are a bit different. In Grachev’s case we were excited after he scored 40 goals in juniors in his D+1 season. Kravtsov had a very exciting D season in the KHL regular season, unbelievable Gagarin Cup playoffs and now he’s backing it up, first with his dominant play in a National U20 tournament, and now with Traktor. As @Amazing Kreiderman said, for comparison Grachev came back to the KHL at 23 and how did he do as compared to what Kravtsov is doing now?

Thing you can say about any prospect not playing in the NHL. Even in the AHL most of the D there are not going to be able to stick as a 6 or a 7 at the NHL level.

Its such a silly argument.

It is, but I guess that's what happens when people have no legitimate criticism. Chytil has a better chance of being great in the NHL because he's doing it in the AHL but Kravtsov isn't because he "only" does it in the KHL... Okay...

Yeah and there are a ton of D in the NHL who are horrible who he could dangle around.

Could you imagine Staal trying to defend him one on one?

Checking In On the Rangers’ KHL Prospects

2018 ninth-overall pick Vitali Kravtsov has not produced as one would hope through eight games. The Russian winger has just two goals and one assist through eight games. However, this does not properly account for his overall performance and the circumstances he is existing within.

Traktor, his team, are currently enduring a mini crisis of sorts. The perennial contenders have just three wins through eight games and have been outscored 31-to-16. Defensively, they are a mess, and they have taken a ton of penalties. The defense have tremendous trouble moving the puck up the ice as well. As a result, it’s been difficult for the team’s top offensive players to establish consistent offensive zone time.

It’s bee particularly frustrating for Kravtsov specifically. He has an incredible ability to create offense out of nothing, and has done so when given the opportunity. But puck luck has not been on his side so far.

What has really impressed me about Kravtsov, and Alex agrees, is his work away from the puck. The narratives which surround skilled Russian players are typically lazy, but in Kravtsov’s case they absolutely do not apply. He commits on the forecheck and, even at the end of his shifts, will bust his tail to cover on the backcheck.

Basically everything I've said in recent weeks.

If he keeps playing like he has he'll pile up points eventually. Does suck though that his team has been useless this season

Defenders in the KHL are better than in the AHL. That alone completely debunks the statement
Some of them. The gap between the top teams and the bottom teams can be pretty substantial. Maybe it's not as substantial as the KHL drops teams each season, but still. The top teams definitely have some players that are better than your average AHL player and even of NHL quality, but the bottom teams? I mean shit, just look at Traktor, I haven't evaluated every defenseman on their team or anything but their defense as a whole is horrendous. A good AHL team could shred that defense just like good KHL teams do.

Just to get some context at what Traktor has lost over the summer:

Konstantin Klimontov (Depth D)
Pavel Francouz (Starting goalie)
Ivan vishevsky (Top-4 D)
Linus Videll (Middle 6 forward)
Alexei Kruchinin (Middle 6 forward)
Alex Chernikov (Bottom 6 forward)
Yuri Petrov (4th line center)
Maxim Yakutsenya (Middle 6 foward)

They also lost their head coach who left for SKA
