I have no problem with cheap bargain signings on short term deals. I am definitely not interested in another handful of older and more expensive longer term acquisitions. Once you start paying premiums for 30 year old and up players on multi-year deals at a high enough volume that the roster gets clogged with veterans that the coach ends us overplaying, I do have a problem with that.

He was a good 4th line forward in the past relative to his cheap contract.

He's 33.

Non-elite pretty much without exception fall off a cliff at age 32-34.

He is highly unlikely to be a good 4th line forward going forward relative to the contract he receives.

I agree Beagle is a dumb target, and will likely be overpaid.

The only potential way I would be fine with it is if the Canucks really like one of their Sutter offers and think Beagle can fill a similar role and move Sutter for assets. Sign Beagle to whatever over 2 seasons, move Sutter to California or Pittsburgh.

Nash is probably the best UFA C in terms of being a fit. He's older but not yet over 30 so he could be useful for a couple of years and still be a valuable trade chip at the TDL for teams that, typically, overpay for middle/bottom 6 C's. Depends on what we'd have to pay to get him but his lack of historic production should make him more reasonable than a guy like Bozak.

Grabber would be a good fit with Vancouver but he is probably seeking term so another option for me would be Matt Calvert, Maybe a J.T. Brown. Or if you wanna go the trade rout maybe look at Tampa Bay for Callahan or Killorn or just maybe Tyler Johnson if they can't afford him

Sounds like this summer will be similar to last. A few UFA signings which will ignite these boards.... Everyone complaining that whomever we sign takes ice time from the young bucks. Probably will see some bad contracts given. Just cross your fingers they keep terms to 2 years max. Maybe Aquaman secretly re-hired Gillis to work the back channels on Tavares like he did with Sundin.

Yeah I am fine for big overpayments ideally that are 2 years or less.........3 years at max. The only way you are gonna get anyone to want to come to a bottom 5 team is to do just that.

I'm optimistic Benning has learned his lesson and his language would hopefully lead one to believe that he's done just that.

We do need some veteran help while our youth develops. I don't think it serves them to get physically beat up while losing 7-2 every evening.

Bozak and Reaves are the 2 players I think Jimbo makes a serious push for in regards to that. Hopefully for a max 3 years (2 would be much better but we will see on that I guess).

This would be a dream scenario. Lose the Sutter contract, get a pick hopefully, and make the team worse to tank in 2019.

Just because Benning said that doesn't make it true. All you have to do is check the trades that were made and you can see that a number of wingers were traded, and most deals were straight up for picks.

Or is it also completely made up that Patrick Maroon was traded for a 3rd round pick and that we shouldn't believe any source that claims that deal happened?

The Dmen UFA class is unreal. I doubt they all get to free agency but these are players i wouldnt mind over paying for to convince them to come to Vancouver. It should be perfect timing as we would be starting to compete.

Ottawa is a mess, why would Karlsson extend there ? Even if wanted to can Melnyk afford him ?

If Tavares signs in Tbay then that leaves them very close to the cap w. Pending raises to Point, Sergachev. That might leave Mcdonaugh out.


Doughty i believe will extend. But i dont see what the rush is for 0layers to extend. They should at least hear what others want to offer.. whats the harm.

I can only see if an extension if the player is very very happy at where they are.playing. which is why doughty and ellis will probably extend
