This is more in response to the talk in the Hawks gameday thread. Thought it would make more sense to continue the recent discussion from there to here in the general thread.
I am not happy with Benn's effort seemingly 50% of the time, but even considering that, him and Seguin aren't the problems. It's flat out a lack talented, offensive forward depth. I think we all know this, so it's not new info.
Many online think players like Dickie and Shore are good players. People defended Elie and Smith. Like, these guys (especially the last two) are NOT good. They are essentially warm bodies. They have very little creativity. Sure, have Dickie centre the second line. That is awful.
I read things today like "We have so much talent, we should be doing better" on one of the other Stars boards (fine places with lots of great people - this is not a bash). I'm like, really? Like who? Who are these talented players we have outside the obvious big guns? No, no we do not have so much talent. Winnipeg? They have talent. Nashville? Yep. Tampa Bay? Obviously. I mean, I understand it's not fair to compare to elite teams like that, but when I hear "We have so much talent" you gotta think to yourself - Would any forward from our roster outside of Seguin/Benn/Rads and maybe Faksa even crack the lineup of any of those teams? Negative. Janmark could, but his play has fallen off a cliff so badly that I don't even think he should be in the lineup ahead of anyone except Ritchie and Pitlick.
I basically go into each game with no expectations. I don't mean that as a negative, I just know what the Stars have and I can't expect them to be any more than that. I can't properly evaluate Monty (other than I hate all his line juggling) because ultimately he doesn't have alot to work with. Nill needs to go, and a serious re-tool needs to happen. Where you would even start I have no idea.
