After seeing Nichushkin and Guryanov play together, you've got to want to stick Spezza at C between them.

I thought Dickinson should've been there last night. He created so many turnovers in the neutral and offensive zones. All he needed was someone driving the net or in position to get a good shot off which Nuke and Gur were doing all night.

Would make a whole lot of sense to have Dickinson there(especially while Spezza is out). He has the speed and defensive ability to really make that line effective while also having the talent to play with them as well. Shore was not noticeable at all.

As much as I'd love Johns back, if I were him I'd be extremely cautious and nervous about returning. He needs at least a month of healthy practicing and no symptoms imo. Then sure come back. Then again we have no clue when the last time he had symptoms was so

I mean there's no timetable so they're still careful with Johns but at least he's around the team and hitting the ice similar to Hanzal before he was cleared to play. Methot is not. Sounds like his knee issue(s) are pretty serious.

With a depilated D lineup for 18 games or so, our AHL callups did a fine job keeping us in the hunt.

Now the fun starts (I hope).

The entire D-core and goalies really did a great job.

Lindell, Heiskanen, Polak all played a major role.

Bayruther, Fedun and Hanley all came in and played serviceable minutes.

If you think about how it was 18 games long and on ONE HAND I can count how many major errors there were you know they were solid as hell.

Sure, our puck movement out of the zone wasn't great, we did a lot of high flips to ease pressure, didn't transition well.. but overall things were very very good from the callups.

Doesn't Lex Luthor also cut the hair to steal it in the movie ? Because he sure as hell doesn't cut any of the metal i just watched a clip

Plotholes like that couldn't happen with Romans hair its just naturally that strong and doesn't need a puny movie.

Also i'm pretty certain a 1000 lbs sphere or ball or whatever that is probably doesn't react like that when its falling down after what was holding it was cut :D

This is more in response to the talk in the Hawks gameday thread. Thought it would make more sense to continue the recent discussion from there to here in the general thread.

I am not happy with Benn's effort seemingly 50% of the time, but even considering that, him and Seguin aren't the problems. It's flat out a lack talented, offensive forward depth. I think we all know this, so it's not new info.

Many online think players like Dickie and Shore are good players. People defended Elie and Smith. Like, these guys (especially the last two) are NOT good. They are essentially warm bodies. They have very little creativity. Sure, have Dickie centre the second line. That is awful.

I read things today like "We have so much talent, we should be doing better" on one of the other Stars boards (fine places with lots of great people - this is not a bash). I'm like, really? Like who? Who are these talented players we have outside the obvious big guns? No, no we do not have so much talent. Winnipeg? They have talent. Nashville? Yep. Tampa Bay? Obviously. I mean, I understand it's not fair to compare to elite teams like that, but when I hear "We have so much talent" you gotta think to yourself - Would any forward from our roster outside of Seguin/Benn/Rads and maybe Faksa even crack the lineup of any of those teams? Negative. Janmark could, but his play has fallen off a cliff so badly that I don't even think he should be in the lineup ahead of anyone except Ritchie and Pitlick.

I basically go into each game with no expectations. I don't mean that as a negative, I just know what the Stars have and I can't expect them to be any more than that. I can't properly evaluate Monty (other than I hate all his line juggling) because ultimately he doesn't have alot to work with. Nill needs to go, and a serious re-tool needs to happen. Where you would even start I have no idea.

@Smelling Salt

Salvageable Talent - Guys that you keep

Seguin (1C)
Benn (1W)
Radulov (1W)
Spezza (Still the most skilled player outside of the top 5. Use a an PP specialist)
Faksa (3C)
Dickinson (Quality bottom 6)
Hintz
Gurianov

Klingberg (1D)
Heiskanen (2D)
Lindell (2D)
Johns (3D)

Bishop (1S)
Khudobin (1B)

---------------------'

Where they need changes/upgrades

Janmark
Nichushkin (no PP, no PK, no points)
Shore
Pitlick
Comeau (his hands are sooo bad)
Ritchie
Hanzal (too injury prone to ever get any consistent high level play out of)

Honka (Wouldn't it had been nice to have played through his mistakes for the last 1.5 months while Klingberg was out? We'd truly know if he's salvageable or not)
Carrick
Methot (too injury prone)
Polak (7th D)
Bayreuther (not ready)

Worst part is I cant imagine there is much trade value in any of the above.

I’m right there with you. This roster is full of spares. The AHL is full of spares. This team blows.

That some fans think all we need is for Monty to make minor shifts in the lines is maybe the most delusional thing in human history since the one guy at Pompeii looked up and said, “Non erit finis.” To think swapping Spezza with Dickinson is the one thing that will lead to a whole bunch of offense and wins is just crazy talk.

But I will say I’ve defended Shore. Not because he’s good but because he’s better than most of the spares taking up space st the bottom half of the roster. His production will never be great, but at least it is something.

Shore I don't hate, but I cringe at him playing on the "second" line. I know it's not really a second line, but in an ideal world where there isn't constant line juggling, he's not suitable in that role whatsoever.

Knee Deep
Defending Val is a joke, guy is a MASSIVE bust plain and simple.

The teams problem is scoring depth, not Benn and Seguin. They're producing halfway decent on pace for 70 points. We need more from them sure, but the glaring problem is forward roster spots 4-12. And Val being one of the higher paid ones in that group, needs to produce. Efforts great, we all like to see that, but he isn't going to produce at a level this team needs.

Defense has held it's own given the injury bug. The first line could stand to produce more but haven't been abysmal. It's 4-12, aka forward depth. It's a line up full of spares. And how we parlay any of these spares into any sort of useful talent via trade is beyond me. If you're scouting department sucks so does your roster.
