SIMON KJELLBERG PLAYED LAST NIGHT AND HAD AN ASSIST (!), 2 SHOTS (!!) AND WAS +1.

I think one thing that will be helpful is that he'll get more PK time next year. He's on probably their 3rd unit and doesn't get a lot of time. I think that's going to be important to his development. Plus with the entire leadership group graduating, he'll definitely get a chance to wear a letter, and be more of a leader on the team.

Lulea won, no points for Lundkvist. He did have an almost-breakaway in OT, but he pulled up at the end and fired a bad pass rather than taking a shot. Still looked solid though. He took the third D shift in OT.

Virta had a PP assist early and was centering the PP1 at the end when Orebro had a PP down by 2. Orebro quickly turned it over and allowed an ENG, though. Good that he's getting PP time.

As usual many good points.

Since you brought up Lettieri I thought it might be instructive to compare the college careers of both.

Vinnie played at Minnesota for four years. Year 1 he was 2-6-8. year 2 he was 9-3-12. Year 3 he was 7-19-26 in 38 games and the 6th leading scorer on the team. His senior year he was 19-18-37 and the third leading scorer on a very good Minnesota team. When a college player has a big senior year you always wonder how much of it is just an older player being better than younger players.

Barron was 5-13-18 last year being the 6th leading scorer on the team. This year through 23 games he is 12-15-27, ceding the team in scoring. He is tied for 18th in the entire NCAA in PPG, 21st in GPG and 46th in APG. Even more impressively he is 4th in the NCAA in scoring per game for players under 21 years old.

So Barron is way ahead of Vinnie for their college careers. I'm not sure Vinnie is a good comparison for Barron.

Vinni is a late bloomer. Comparing anyone to him when he was college-age leaves that person looking really good. But most people won't have the same progress curve, going from a 4th line college player in his sophomore year to an AHL superstar 4 years later. Most NCAA role players (excluding some freshmen) can't even make the ECHL in their prime.

The only reason I brought up Vinni is that he's very good in the AHL now, but can't make the NHL jump. Being good at a lower level doesn't always allow you to jump to a higher level.

Except i can already see people complaining about the McD trade when we have Byram Miller Reunanen/Sjalin as our LD and make Hajek expendable.

no doubt people will complain cause people complain about everything, but your example is kind of proof that we don't have too many guys in the system. your hypothetical has hajek being pushed out of the lineup by a future top 10 pick that we don't already have, a guy that we drafted after the trade who is still no where near being a sure thing since he hasn't turned pro yet and 2 guys that I would consider a miracle if they even came over to NA lol.

Good thing that we have 4 vets LD under contract and that Gorts traded for a LD 5 out of 7 times at the deadline last season... ;)

I saw you've been harping on this for the last couple of weeks in multiple threads but I think it's been premature to complain. I think they would need to open one spot at LD next season, might not even in the beginning so this should be something on Gorton's to-do list for 2019-2020. Should be more of a warning if anything at this point.

Why do you think it would take a miracle for Reunanen or Sjalin to come over? I kinda expect both will do so.

No reason for Tarmo and Calle not to come over.
Yeah it's pretty rare for a guy who is offered an ELC to not sign and come over. Even more so now that teams are showing an increased willingness to let guys out of their contracts or loan them back to the former team if the guy is unhappy or it's not working out.

Lakatos is back to the fourth line on Liberec. Sucks for him.

EDIT: Just in case people haven't followed and don't understand quite how much this sucks for Lakatos, he was loaned by Liberec to Zlin after having like 4 points in 17 games (all assists). He was the 4C/4LW. In Zlin he became the 1C and had 13 points in 22 games. The Liberec recalled him.

Liberec is the best team in the league and will go on a long playoff run and Zlin probably won't make it in, so that's fine, but Lakatos' role is minimal.

Ragnarsson was -2 today in just 10 minutes. He didn't even get 2 minutes in the third.

I know +/- is not a great stat, but he's now -20 in 30 games. The next-worst defenseman on his team is at -7. Good thing he's young, because it seems like he needs to do some work on his game in his own end.

He's a smooth stating defenseman but he's just learning the game at the pro level.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt right now, he's a young guy playing in a man's League, I can't imagine what Brady Skjei would have looked like playing in a pro league at 19 years old, think he was on the third pairing at Minnesota when he was 19, not doing much of anything, but ya know, learning ;)
