Kjellberg on track to become the biggest ‘must watch’ Rangers prospect since Daniel Bernhardt

Can he challenge Petter Henning?

BTW Kjellberg is going to college next season right? Anyone know where he is going?

Barron also had a primary assist on the 3rd goal. He's now up to 12-15-27 in 23 GP. He is the team leader in goals, assists, PP goals, GWG, shots and is second in PP asissts. He's also 3rd nationally in SOG/G behind a preseason Hobey candidate and a guy with a great name who has never been in his own defensive zone.

Looks like he went straight in, no twisting motion. Seems like it hurt like hell, but the risk for serious injury should be lower. Though I guess he could've broken/cracked his kneecap.

My thoughts exactly, but that is pretty unusual, odds for just a bleeding are pretty good.

UMASS Lowel had back to back shutout wins this weekend. Wall shut out BC on Friday 3-0 and the other goalie shut out the #2 ranked team 2-0.

Doesn't seem like he is having the end of the year slump that he had last year and some posters were raising as a possible concern. He may want to stay in college and good for him if he wants to but I think the Rangers have to seriously be thinking about offering him a contract for next year. It's not obvious how much more he has to gain from a hockey perspective by staying another year.

I'd leave him for another year.

Ideally I'd like him to stay all 4 years and it's certainly possible (I think the team being good helps. All those Clemson guys came back) but realistically he's got one more year at Cornell.

Last year based on watching him I called him a smaller better skating Brian Boyle. I now think that he could be a Kvein Hayes type player in the NHL. He's got a similar game, with good hands and passing. I think Hayes's hands are a lot better but Barron is a better shooter. Not saying he'll get there but that's his upside and I think we'd all be pretty happy with that.

One day, people might realize that leaving a player in a situation where he doesn’t have room for growth is just as risky as possibly rushing him. Players can easily develop bad habits in an environment that isn’t challenging enough.

These things need to be kept on a case-by-case basis, with a lot more information the organization has that we might not. I just felt the need to point out that there’s no inherent wisdom involved in being patient with a prospect.

Yep, fair point.

The Rangers have to decide if leaving him in college another season will be beneficial to his development. Can he improve multiple aspects of his game? Or is it just a matter of seeing if he can hit X number of points or whatever?

Out of all the leagues that we have prospects in, I feel most comfortable in the Rangers' ability to assess NCAA guys. I feel like we've done a pretty good job deciding when to try to bring guys out. It helps, I think, having guys like Drury and Ortmeyer in important roles, as well as our coaching staff who all have the NCAA background.
