Oh ok, its just that Zucc has been lame AF for a good bit while Holik was a two way monster for NJ before he got the Rags deal, which they immediately regretted, like from day 1, lol.

What? The Rangers would never carelessly throw ridiculous $ around in free agency on players like Holik, Gomez, Brad Richards...I see your point.

I mean yeah they do that or did, i guess i couldnt blame them re: Holik, he was a beast for years till he got to NY. And he lasted all of two years there

Well...I don't know if those two are really comparable. Zuccarello has been a top-flight offensive winger for years now. Holik was good, but for some reason everyone, from GMs to scouts to coaches, conveniently forgot that for all his defensive prowess, Holik was never even on the first or second penalty kill units in New Jersey. The narrative was that Lou and the organziation asked him to focus on his defensive game to help the team and he'd get rewarded when it came time, then used his not-stellar offensive totals against him in arbitration. Truth is, he was just a really good checking line center, nothing more. Why so many teams got into a bidding war for his services will forever be one of hockey's great mysteries. The Leafs made a big run at him as well.

FTR I'd be shocked if Zucc even picked up the phone if Gorton called. The way the team handled him and his impending free agency is shameful and incompetent to say the least. I still think they're half-assing this supposed "rebuild" just like they did the last time.
