Oh man. That's a dope interview from Mack. His relationship with Joe pretty much could not be better. We're gonna have no issues whatsoever getting him signed for ~9M on his next deal.

And with how close Tyson and Nate are with each other you know Tyson shouldn't be a hard re-sign either.

Assuming he keeps this up and salaries keep rising, he should be getting a nice 8 year, $120M offer from the Avs the year before he can become an UFA.

Who knows where the cap will be by the time MacKinnon needs a new deal. However if JS keeps getting good contracts for our key guys and doesn't over spend in UFA we should have no issues surrounding him with talent.

Too bad Nate won't be patient for long. Bring in the overpaid UFAs!

Maybe that helps get him signed. They were great friends during Barrie's last negotiation though too.

In the end Barries contract negotiations purely come down to Barrie. If he wants to get paid he can, if he wants to re sign he can. Everyone can blame Newport but they do what the client wants and if Barrie really wants to re sign with the Avs then it shouldn’t be an issue.

He will get signed and he will get paid. If Nate is really that close in touch with Joe there is no way he let's its franchise's player's BFF walk away, especially given how good that player is.

Forsberg and Deadmarsh were best buds but it netted us Blake .

And we got him signed for pennies on the dollar

Well he signed for $5.5M x 4 which only bought one UFA year, and he could cash in big when it expired. It wasn't what they were hoping for when they went to arbitration, but it's not a bad deal for him.

I think some posters got a little confused. Mack will earn 9M on his next contract. Barrie will likely earn 8M on his next contract.

I think @Tralfamadore is questioning the number, not MacKinnon's willingness to re-sign. Far too early to think about this because who knows what will happen over the next few years but if what we saw last season is the new norm for MacKinnon, we'll probably be talking about McDavid's contract as a comparable. Even that could be seen as being too low five years from now.
