Hey guys, what's the deal with Kase? Surprised he hasn't been signed yet. What kind of deal do you think he gets.
He will either be taking a 2-3 year deal for less than 3 million or he will get a 5-6 year deal for more than 4

I think Murray will sign him to a bridge deal simply because we don't have much cap room, especially when you consider that Murray is interested in re-signing Silfverberg. I'll guess 2 years at 2.5 aav.

Why? His numbers were real good last year, and that was without a lot of PP time.

Obviously we should hope for less but he's earned either of those I would say

Long term he shouldn't get 4 yet. Rakell didn't even get 4, although BM did a great job on Rakell/Lindholm holdouts. A short term deal may look more like 2.75, imo.

The Rakell contract is a crazy outlier. Hopefully for Kase's sake he has a better agent than that.

All the underlying numbers on Kase are good. Injuries are the only concern for me, I'd definitely consider a longer term deal but when you look at Montour you'd figure Kase is in a similar boat

Our prospect Andrew Nielsen just started following the Ducks accounts on his social media and removed Toronto from his location.

Looks like the Leafs and Ducks could be making another deal soon.

Or it could be nothing :)

Nielsen for Nattinen would seem like a good change of scenery for a pair of prospects who have seen their stock take a dip.

Murray has discussed trying to get another Manson type in the system. Obviously it's a long shot that Nielsen would ever reach that level, but it would make sense that the Ducks would be enquiring about a big physical D prospect.

IF there's anything to it, my guess would be it'd be Nattinen or Holzer. I don't think we'd trade any more late round picks since we're already without our 3rd and 7th.

I can't make any sense of these forward lines. It will be really interesting to see how they settle them. I think they'll likely start with something like this:

Rakell- Getzlaf- Eaves
Cogliano- Kesler- Silfverberg
Kase- Henrique- Perry
Ritchie/Gibbons- Rowney- Ritchie/Gibbons

Kossila, Terry

where you have at least two players playing their off wing.

I'd rather see this:

Rakell- Getzlaf- Eaves
Silfverberg- Kesler- Kase
Cogliano- Henrique- Perry
Ritchie/Gibbons- Kossila- Ritchie/Gibbons

Rowney, Terry

but you still have two guys playing their off wing.

I know we'll probably complain about whatever Randy ends up doing but I can't really blame him for any of these lineups with such a bizarre group of forwards. The only thing he might do that would be stupid would be to put Ritchie on any line other than the 4th. These lines are all moot anyway once the injuries start coming in.

I think we might see more rookies in our line up this year. I'm probably a fool for thinking it, but here's why I do.

1. BM made a point of saying we need a productive 4th line this year.
2. I don't think Gibbons and Rowney are exactly the players we need for a "productive" 4th line.
3. We haven't signed any 13th or 14th forwards yet.
4. Having a rookie in the press box as a spare forward is bad for their development.
5. Gibbons and Rowney are old enough that time in the press box will not affect their development.
6. BM said, "Steel, Terry and possibly Roy are very close".

I think Gibbons and Rowney were signed to be our spare forwards and also to be a hurdle for our rookies to clear to prove they can make it. I think Steel or Kossila will be in the line up. I also think Terry is nearly a lock. This is my assumption, but I think getting Terry to re-sign with us and not go UFA included some promises of playing time. If we weren't going to give him playing time he could have gone to a team that would have. BM mentioned trying Silf at LW. The 5 RWs I think he was talking about are Perry, Kase, Silf, Eaves and Terry. I think (hope) the line-ups will be something like this.

Rakell - Getzlaf - Terry
Silfverberg - Henrique - Kase
Cogliano - Kesler- Eaves
Ritchie - Steel - Perry

Gibbons / Rowney

Now the lines could very well change around. It's very likely that they keep Silf with Kesler. I know they talked about trying Eaves on Getz's wing again. But I think the 12 starting forwards to start the year could look like this. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

Thoughts?

Rowney was signed to play. Unless we want Getzlaf getting big PK minutes again.

Also Gibbons is a very good 4th liner. He will likely play also.

idk id love to see the Rakell Getzlaf Kase line get a long look tho… that could be a pretty dominant line, but then our 2nd lline looks a lil weak... honestly its a bit weird with our signings and what we have in development to make lines righit now.

My thought is that you forgot who is coaching this team. There is no way Terry will be the first line RW. RC plays a shutdown line, you don't have one. Rowney was acquired to PK, he isn't going to be in the press box. I would expect Ritchie/Henrique/Kase to be a thing again.

With young guys I'm a big fan of putting a ton of speed together and hoping if all else fails they will be tough to play against because of their pressure. I wouldnt mind seeing a lineup like

Rakell Getz Eaves
Silf Kesler Kase
Ritchie Henrique Perry
Cogliano Steel Terry

That way you could run 4 full lines even though I'd be afraid of how slow the Perry line is but they would have size and skill and maybe Richie can learn to play possession hockey and use his size as an advantage.

Right, we all know who RC is. But there was also a clear statement by BM (who is RC's boss) that we will play 4 lines next year.

Regarding Terry, I did address that these were not the exact lines I was projecting (in my last paragraph). I was projecting our top 12 personnel.

And, I did include a shutdown line. Cogs - Kesler - Eaves. All 3 of those guys are clearly defensive players. All 3 have shown scoring potential in the past and all 3 have reasons why they may not be able to be counted on for top 6 scoring duties this year.

I do agree that it's likely that Ritchie - Rico - Kase are back together again. BM's comment about trying Silf at LW juggles the lines quite a bit when you try to put them together though.

I'm not arguing, I would like to hear your input though.

With that statement, who do you see as our 13th and 14th forwards? Do you think they are going to bring Kossila and Terry up then stick them in the press box? Do you think we'll make depth signings and leave all of our young forwards in the minors?

Also, are you assuming that no rookie forwards will be given a chance on this team at all?

How do you see the season starting?

Yup, exactly. Rookies will most likely need to force their ways onto the team due to injuries or lazy play from someone else.

BM also said RC was a brand new coach who had evolved to the modern game when he first bought him back.

And we all know that Carlyle was adaptable, right? He could always smoothly transition from one game plan to another, as the situation required. Right?

...right?
