Hakstol isn't stupid, you don't have his success, top college program, playoffs 2 of 3 years during a massive rebuild (don't think so, go look at the 2013-14 roster, who's left? Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Couts, Raffl, MacDonald) being stupid.

Lehtera and Weise will play only if a bunch of younger forwards screw the pooch.
There are 10 forwards with set jobs: G, V, Couts, TK, JVR, Patrick, Lindblom, Simmonds, Laughton, Raffl
So we're talking keeping 4 forwards for 2 spots: Frost, Vorobyev, NAK, Weal, Leier, MV, Bardreau with Lehtera and Weise pulling up the rear.

There are 7 D-men with set jobs: Provorov, Ghost, Gudas, Sanheim, MacDonald, Hagg and Folin.
Myers makes 8. Morin 9 in the spring. The only way MacDonald and Hagg both play is Sanheim and Myers blow it.

The kids know what they have to do to win jobs, it's stressed in talks with scouts in junior, it's stressed by the AHL coaches, it's stressed in TC.

"how you have to play to be successful as a pro - being harder on the puck, learning when you can make a play and when you should just live to fight the next battle, the physical side, the mental side in finding an identity as to what you need to do to."

The ones who learn this play, the ones who want to free lance, make bad decisions, fail to back check, don't want to fore check, don't focus on gap control, and won't fight for the puck in the corners and along the boards get benched.

This is Hextall, it is the tone of the organization, it's been stressed for four years now.
Get with the program or get out - and most of the players Hextall drafts buy into this approach to the game.
You lost me at his “success”

I am hoping Myers makes the team at the beginning of the season and shows big improvement to be able to jump up and play with Provy later in the season. I'm looking forward to those two playing together for years to come. Save Ghost's body with lighter minutes and put him with Sanheim and then have MacDonald/Gudas together as the third pair.

Ghost and Sanheim make no sense together, there's only one puck and both players need the puck to be special.
It would make more sense to pair Myers with Sanheim, maybe next year, where Myers can be the "safe" defenseman but still make plays when the opportunity arises, and Sanheim would have freedom to be aggressive on offense with the big man behind him.

Morin - Friedman as your third pair.

Don't presume someone like Lavi could coach this team the next few years, he was never that comfortable with young players - his best teams:

2005-06 Carolina, 112 points, SC winner [10 starters over 30 years old]
D: Hedican (35), Ward (33), Commodore (26), Wallin (30), Wesley (37)
F: Brind'Amour (35), J Williams (24), Staal 21 (#2 pick), Stillman (32), Recchi (37), Cullen (29), Cole (27), Weight (35), Whitney (33), Adams (31), Ladd 20 (#4) 9:27

2009-2012 Flyers, 61 pts in 57 g, EF winner, 106 points 2nd rd loss, 103 points, 2nd rd loss
D: Pronger (35), Kimmo (34), Carle (25), Coburn (24), Krajicek (26)
F: Richards (24), Briere (32), Giroux (22), Carter (25), Gagne (29), Leino (26), Hartnell (27), Powe (24), JVR 21 (#2), Betts (29), Asham (31), Carcillo (25)
2010-11: Meszaros (25) replaced Pronger, O'Donnell (39) replaced Krajicek, Versteg (24) replaced Gagne, Zherdev (26) replaced Asham
2011-12: Grossman (27) replaced Meszaros, Gustafsson (23)/Lilja (36) replaced O'Donnell, Talbot (27), Read (25), Jagr (39), Simmonds (23), Couts (19), Schenn (20), Wellwood (21) replaced Richards, Carter, Briere, Leino, Powe, Betts
Lavi missed the playoffs the next year.

2014-15 Predators, 104 points, lost 1st rd
D: Josi (24), Jones 20 (#4), Ekholm (24), Ellis (24), Weber (29)
F: Ribeirio (34), Neal (27), Forsberg (20), Smith (25), Wilson (25), Cullen (38), Jarnkrok (23),Gaustad (32),Bourque (24), Gaustad (27), Stalberg (29), Santorelli (29)

2016-17 Predators, 94 points, WF winner
D: Josi (26), Subban (27), Ekholm (26), Ellis (26), Irwin (29), Weber (28)
F: Johansen 24 (#4), Forsberg (22), Arvidsson (23), Neal (29), Fisher (36), Jarnkrok (25), Wilson (27), Sissons (23), Watson (25), Aberg (23), Smith (27)

Lavi likes veterans, his idea of a "rookie" is either someone 24-25, or a top 5 draft pick - the only player to get significant playoff time at a young age who wasn't an elite draft pick was Forsberg, and he was obviously underrated by Washington.
He's the coach you bring in to take a veteran team up a notch.
He'd love to coach the Flyers in 2021-22 when all the kids are 22-26 years old and he has 34 year old Giroux, 32 year old Voracek and JVR, 29 year old Couts etc.

Simmonds, for me, is the key to all line-ups. The question or the conundrum that both Hex and Hak have: where do you play him? If he comes back totally healed , can you really give a bundle of money if he is a 3rd line winger? You have 3 Top 6 right wingers. Can you put Simmonds on the 1st line and play Konecny on the 3rd line? The only way you can put Konecny on the 3rd line is if you have a truly electrifying center like Frost! Either Simmonds is a Top 6 forward or he is not? And if not then he is not worth it for himself and his family nor the Flyers. My dream, Simmonds comes back, plays lights out on 1st line and Frost stays and Konecny on his right with Lindblom trying to keep up with two in full flight. Dreaming, yep, but at least I can dream that line-up for the next 6-7 weeks until reality catches up.

Simmonds will be on the “3rd line” but I’m hoping the line will be used as a 4th line and then load up the 4th line with shutdown wingers and give Laughton last chance to prove himself

Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
JVR-Patrick-Voracek
Weal-Voro/Lethera-Simmonds
Lindblom-Laughton-Raffl

Simmonds can get his time on PP, PK depth, and the Hak special and fill in for Konecny/JVR in last 2min when holding a lead

Ill go back to hating him soon but its the summer and im trying to decompress lol
Good plan. It's too hard to maintain hatred through a whole summer. You gotta pace yourself.

Although, I don't really hate Lehtera. It's not his fault he sucks and was overpaid and overplayed. It's not like the guy should turn down money or playing time. It's hockey dinosaurs (even the youngish ones like Hakstol) that cause this issue.

“If the game was only played on a shooting pad in a Finnish backyard in the summer with the goal to sauce a puck in a bucket and then dance, Jori Lehtera would be an All Star.” -Bill Clement

Jori seems like a good dude.

Like it always goes, he probably is a good dude who works his tail off. He’s just not good (anymore). That’s not his fault he played so much. That’s his coach’s fault for being a dunce, and his GM’s fault for allowing his coach to be a dunce.

Joke about Jori, fairly criticize him, but don’t take petty aggression out on the person. Don’t boo him for the sake of it. Same for MacDonald or whoever. Boo Hakstol. I’m sorry to say, Reb, but you’ve always been too light on your criticism of the coach.

I wont even tolerate jokes of this nature.

My hatred of Hakstok burns like an eternal flame.

You're getting bent out of shape over a 4th line forward playing 10 minutes a night on a team full of scrubs in their bottom six?

As Voracek said to Bennie: Get a Life!
